Tax Accountant Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Tax Accountant to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for performing a variety of accounting-related functions, including processing tax returns, coordinating the collection of required documents and information, bookkeeping, research, reconciliation, and budgeting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Tax Return Preparation:
    • Prepare personal tax returns, using firm-ordered files and templates as needed.
    • Prepare business tax returns, including work papers and journal entries.
    • Review client books and make adjustments for year-end.
  • Client Communication:
    • Contact clients for information or documents required to complete returns.
  • Research and Analysis:
    • Conduct independent research on necessary laws prior to submitting a return to the reviewer.
  • Planning and Budgeting:
    • Determine tax liability, salary requirements, and payroll liabilities.
    • Prepare tax projections and planning tasks for clients.
  • CORRESPONDENCE AND BOOKKEEPING:
    • Handle correspondences with IRS and state agencies, including payment plan paperwork, Powers of Attorney, and State registrations.
    • Perform external bookkeeping, adjusting balance sheets and handling year-end adjustments.
Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance-related field.
  • Proficient in tax and accounting software/tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, QuickBooks, CCH Access/ProFX Tax, Intelliconnect Tax Research, Intelliforms, Tax Tools, CFS Payroll, Practice Management Time Entry, Accounting Research, PFX Tax Planning, Proseries Tax Planner, CCH Engagement External Bookkeeper.
  • Licensed as a certified public accountant is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Aptitude in data management, analytics, and reporting preparation.
