This role is a key position in our team that focuses on risk engineering, particularly within the pulp and paper industry.

Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled professional to join our Risk Engineering team as a Senior Risk Consultant. This individual will be responsible for evaluating and mitigating risks associated with pulp and paper mill operations, with a strong focus on the Black Liquor Recovery Boiler (BLRB).

The successful candidate will work closely with underwriters, plant operators, and maintenance personnel to develop insurance strategies and ensure compliance with industry standards. Key responsibilities include conducting thorough risk evaluations of pulp and paper mills, developing tailored insurance strategies, performing regular on-site inspections, evaluating business interruption risks, and collaborating with plant personnel and insurers to gather insights and optimize risk mitigation strategies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough risk evaluations of pulp and paper mills, with a focus on the BLRB, including high-risk exposures such as smelt/water explosions and equipment breakdowns.
  • Develop and implement tailored insurance strategies considering the complexities of the BLRB and related equipment.
  • Perform regular on-site inspections to assess equipment conditions, maintenance practices, and compliance with industry standards.
  • Evaluate business interruption risks and develop contingency plans to mitigate potential losses related to the BLRB.
  • Collaborate with plant personnel and insurers to gather insights, review insured values, and optimize risk mitigation strategies.

Required Skills and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Risk Management, or a related field.
  • Relevant years of experience in risk management or insurance within the pulp and paper industry.
  • Strong understanding of engineering risks and insurance principles, with a focus on the BLRB.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills to engage with diverse stakeholders.
