Open Source Engineering Specialist

This role offers a unique opportunity to work on complex software issues, leveraging expertise in Linux and open source technologies. As an Open Source Engineering Specialist, you will be responsible for troubleshooting and resolving critical issues across various layers of the stack, including kernel, containerization, networking, and storage.

  • Utilize problem-solving skills to resolve complex customer problems related to Ubuntu, Kernel, Ceph, OpenStack, or Kubernetes.
  • Maintain close working relationships with Canonical's Field, Support, and product engineering teams.
  • Participate in upstream communities, contributing to the growth and improvement of open source software.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop bug fixes, backport patches, and collaborate with upstream communities for inclusion.
  • Review code produced by other engineers, ensuring adherence to quality standards.
  • Prioritize tasks effectively, managing time against priorities.
  • Engage in team discussions to enhance processes, tools, and documentation.

Requirements:

  • Exceptional academic track record, preferably in Computer Science or STEM fields.
  • Background in Linux and open source software development.
  • Experience with at least one of Python, Go, C, or C++ on Linux.
  • Drive to learn unfamiliar technology and tackle complex issues.

  • Passion for soft skills and self-motivation.
  • Interest in learning about Ubuntu Linux, Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, QEMU/KVM, LXC/LXD, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Debian packaging, and distributed systems.
