Medical Coding Specialist Role

We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Coding Specialist to join our primary care team.

About the Position:

The successful candidate will be responsible for accurately coding diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines. They will conduct thorough reviews of patient charts and medical records, perform regular coding audits, and collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation and coding requirements.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Coding and Auditing: Accurately code diagnoses, procedures, and services using ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS codes, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines.
  • Chart Reviews: Conduct thorough reviews of patient charts and medical records to verify the accuracy and completeness of coding and documentation.
  • Coding Audits: Perform regular coding audits to identify areas for improvement and ensure adherence to coding standards and clinic policies.
  • Collaboration: Collaborate with physicians and clinical staff to clarify documentation and coding requirements, providing guidance and training to ensure accurate and comprehensive documentation.
Qualifications and Skills:
  • Certification: Certification as a Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), or equivalent.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of medical coding experience, preferably in a primary care or multi-specialty clinic setting.
  • Coding Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding guidelines.
  • Communication Skills: Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to work effectively with healthcare professionals.
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems and coding software.
