Student Financial Assistant Role Summary

  • The role is responsible for providing financial support to students, including managing student applications for external funding and administering prizes, grants, and bursaries.
Key Responsibilities:
  1. Manage the Finance Bursary for Students, serving as a first point of contact.
  2. Support students with external sponsor funding and manage payments accurately.
  3. Administer all prizes, grants, bursaries, studentships, awards to students by the College.
  4. Maintain good communication channels with students, providing information and answering queries.
  5. Manage the Intranet pages relating to the Finance Bursary for students.
  6. Prepare and approve the import of student charges from sub ledgers.
  7. Responsible for the annual set up of the student rent charging system.
  8. Support the Accommodation manager to ensure all student rent is correctly applied.
  9. Liaise with the Central University regarding US loans and manage audits.
  10. Closing the student sales ledger at month end, preparing journals, accruals, and prepayments.
  11. Reconcile the Oxford bursary report to individual students' records.
  12. Manage queries and adjustments for University fee records.
  13. Reviewing financial declarations and proposing approval.
  14. Managing the Bursary@ inbox.
Credit Control:
  1. Be the credit controller for students, collecting overdue debt and reporting regularly to the Finance Director.
  2. Preparation of a debtors' report, proposing strategies to collect debt.
  3. Support the Bursar in debt escalation meetings and monitor payment plans.
Essential Criteria:
  • Finance qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Excellent numeracy skills, report writing, and attention to detail.
  • Advanced knowledge of Excel and system skills.
  • Excellent organisation and prioritising skills.
  • Ability to identify problems and develop solutions.
  • Good interpersonal skills, empathy, and ability to explain and influence.
  • Good team working skills, flexibility, and adaptability.
  • Previous experience as Finance Assistant or Accounts Receivable assistant.
  • Some technical accounting knowledge, particularly month-end and VAT returns.
