About the Role

This position is for a highly skilled and experienced Security Engineer who will be responsible for monitoring, triaging, responding to, and documenting new and existing vulnerabilities in open source software.

The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of common security categories and techniques for fixing them, as well as experience with Linux, Debian or Ubuntu preferred.

They will work collaboratively with other teams in the Ubuntu community and upstream developers to exchange or develop vulnerability patches and ensure that Ubuntu includes the most robust security features.

  • The selected candidate will analyze, fix, and test vulnerabilities in open source packages.
  • They will keep track of vulnerabilities in the Ubuntu ecosystem as they are discovered, researched, and fixed, leveraging internal tools.
  • Collaboration with other teams in the Ubuntu community and upstream developers is essential to exchange or develop vulnerability patches and ensure that Ubuntu includes the most robust security features.

In addition to these responsibilities, the successful candidate will also have excellent logic, problem-solving, troubleshooting, and decision-making skills, as well as strong interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
