WPPI has an opportunity for a talented Power Systems Design Engineer to join our company.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  1. Design and Engineering:
  • Develop detailed and comprehensive electrical system designs for both PV power generation projects and hybrid microgrid projects. This includes preparation of single line diagrams, protection and metering diagram, electrical equipment sizing, layout drawings, cable schedules, signal list, inter connection schedules etc.
  • Prepare technical specifications for material requisitions, conduct vendor drawing reviews, and perform technical bid evaluations to ensure compliance with project requirements and industry standards.
  • Conduct power system studies in ETAP, including Load Flow Analysis, Short Circuit Analysis, and Protection & Coordination Studies.
  • Conduct on-site surveys and inspections to support design work and to identify potential challenges during the construction/installation phase, while performing on-site troubleshooting and root-cause analysis during the operation phase.
  • Support the Business Development Team in meetings with clients and stakeholders to clarify design elements and align expectations.
  • Coordinate with equipment vendors, contractors, and internal teams to finalize project specifications, optimize project outcomes, and ensure alignment with project goals and requirements.
  • Prepare and submit documentation for regulatory approvals and to obtain permits, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and regulations for on-time completion of projects.

2. Project Execution and Supervision:

  • Supervise on-site installation and commissioning of projects, including contractor management, ensuring all activities comply to the approved designs, timeline and safety standards while following industry best practices.
  • Facilitate effective communication between the project team, clients, contractor, and other stakeholders to ensure smooth project execution and manage client expectations.
  • Conduct regular inspections to ensure workmanship and contractor performance meets or exceeds quality requirements.
  • Prepare regular progress reports and update the Project Manager and clients on project status.
  • Address any issues that arise during project execution to prevent delays or deviations from the project plan.

Competences & Capabilities

The candidate would possess the following capabilities and qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on Power Systems.
  • Experience: Minimum 5 years in power systems design, project coordination, and management.
  • License: Must possess a valid Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) License as a Registered Electrical Engineer (REE).
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proficient in design software (ETAP, DigSILENT, AutoCAD, PVsyst, PVSOL) and MS Office Suite.
    • Knowledge of local and international standards (IEC, IEEE, NEC) for electrical design and installations.
  • Operating Skills:
    • Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
    • Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
    • Effective communication skills in English, including technical report writing.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Valid driving license preferred.
    • Willing to travel frequently domestically and occasionally internationally for projects and meetings.
