The Operational Accounting Manager is a strategic financial leader responsible for overseeing cost accounting, budgeting, and financial analysis within a dynamic Agri Business Division operation within the Leslie Group of Companies. This role partners closely with operational teams managing a swine farming facility, an integrated feedmill, and contract grower satellite farms. The ideal candidate will drive feasibility studies, develop financial models to evaluate paybacks on swine operations, and support capital investment decisions—ranging from equipment acquisitions to new farm constructions—to enhance operational efficiency and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

Cost Accounting & Budget Management:

  • Oversee daily cost accounting processes, including the monitoring and allocation of feed, labor, veterinary, and production costs.
  • Develop, manage, and track annual budgets and forecasts for all aspects of swine production and feedmill operations.
  • Conduct variance analysis and recommend corrective actions for cost overruns.

Financial Modeling & Feasibility Studies:

  • Create and maintain detailed financial models to analyze paybacks and ROI for swine production projects, equipment acquisitions, and infrastructure expansions.
  • Lead feasibility studies assessing new investment opportunities such as building additional farms or upgrading operational equipment.
  • Present actionable insights and recommendations to senior management based on financial analyses and scenario planning.

Operational Collaboration & Strategic Planning:

  • Collaborate with operations, production, and capital planning teams to integrate financial insights into daily decision-making.
  • Support strategic planning for long-term growth, including evaluating the performance of contract grower satellite farms.
  • Monitor industry trends and benchmark costs to drive operational improvements and competitiveness.

Reporting & Compliance:

  • Prepare regular financial reports, cost analyses, and management presentations that inform strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure compliance with internal financial policies, external regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Coordinate with external auditors during periodic financial audits.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accountancy.
  • CPA
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in cost accounting or operational financial management, ideally within an agricultural or livestock production environment.
  • Demonstrated expertise in financial modeling, feasibility studies, and capital budgeting.
  • Proficient in ERP systems, advanced Excel functions, and other financial analysis tools.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and translate it into actionable business insights.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across departments.
  • Understanding of swine production processes, feedmill operations, and contract grower dynamics is highly desirable.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in large-scale swine or livestock operations.
  • Familiarity with agricultural market trends and cost management strategies in agribusiness.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, results-oriented environment with a focus on continuous improvement.
