About the role:

The Financial Times is home to a number of smaller business units which focus on Thought Leadership and Content Creation. Reporting into the Senior Commercial Finance Business Partner in the UK, the Management Accountant (Longitude & Data Publishing) will provide key management accounting & finance support for the above business units, across all financial processes, reporting and business modelling.

FT Longitude is a specialist thought leadership and research business within the Financial Times, dedicated to creating compelling, insight-driven content that helps clients grow and strengthen their market presence.

FT Data Publishing compiles and publishes stock market data, share prices, and financial metrics in the Financial Times, delivering accurate and timely market intelligence to investors and businesses.

This is an exciting opportunity for a finance professional to gain experience working in a high-profile digital business that requires strong financial support in order to meet ambitious goals and targets.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Preparation of the Weekly Sales reports, and project profitability analysis.
  • Timely and accurate month end processing and reporting of revenues and costs (variable and overheads) and variance analysis as required by key stakeholders.
  • Preparation of monthly revenue journals for accrued and deferred revenue and costs.
  • Monthly headcount & payroll reconciliation.
  • Preparation of monthly Balance Sheet Reconciliations.
  • Support in preparing timely and accurate quarterly forecasts for revenue and costs.
  • Support in preparing the monthly/quarterly commission pay-outs.
  • Assistance with the raising and reconciliation of sales invoices.
  • First point of contact for external audit queries.
  • Distribute monthly expense trackers to budget owners, and highlight areas of concern to maintain budget efficiency.
  • Contribution of ideas to help streamline our processes and develop our reporting to the business.
  • Ownership of comprehensive, up to date, process documentation to aid the above.
  • Timely and accurate maintenance of all procedure documentation relating to their area of responsibilities.
  • Ad hoc analysis and reporting as required by the business and the Senior Commercial Finance Business Partner.
Skills and Experience:
  • ACCA/CIMA part-qualified, a bachelor's degree in Accountancy, Financial Management or equivalent would be an advantage.
  • A minimum of 3 years work experience in a relevant finance environment.
  • Confident communicator with a variety of audiences and for regular interactions within the Finance team, the wider FT business, other support functions, and in some cases external third parties. This role will also have a high degree of virtual interaction (telephone, video and email) with the UK, US and other FT global offices. Clear communication and the ability and desire to integrate into a remote Global team is essential for success.
  • Demonstrable, intermediate level ability with MS Excel is essential (advanced level preferred).
  • Experience with Google suite, Oracle Accounts, Anaplan and Essbase would be an advantage.
  • Demonstrable analytical skills, comfortable with large financial data sets.
  • Effective organisation and time management skills, able to handle multiple requests and prioritise accordingly.
  • Strong work ethic and self-motivated with an ability to work independently.
  • Great attention to detail.
  • Proactive to understand stakeholder needs and take initiative to problem solve.
  • Technical experience with or the ability to adapt quickly to newly implemented general ledger systems as well as other supporting systems.
