OSP Engineer

This is the first level of the Communications Specialist classifications. The purpose of this position is to read and interpret existing drawings and maps to minimize the need to create new drawings and create new drawings when necessary in a timely fashion that meet client and internal standards.

• Develop understanding and comply with all FTTP and project documentation standards (i.e., land base maps, assessor maps, AT&T OSP records, etc.)
• Work closely with all departments to ensure project timelines are met and the final product conveys the correct information.
• Maintain proficiency and knowledge of technical developments related to AT&T systems planning (establishment of feeder routes, Fiber Hub locations, distribution routes & boundaries).
• Design engineering (feeder and distribution layouts to be redlined on base maps showing all requirements associated with OSP distribution).
• Generate CAD construction work prints using AutoCAD and various AT&T systems.
• Perform self-check and quality control of own work for completeness, accuracy, meeting client standards, and overall presentation quality.
• Understand future trends in telecommunication technology.
• Create and execute project work plans and revise plans to meet emerging issues or evolving requirements.

• Experience in telecommunications fiber network design, including outside plant design for underground, buried, and aerial plant.
• Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from network computer stations.
• Ability to self-check work for accuracy and completeness.
• Ability to work closely with engineers and personnel to ensure project completion and drawing clarity.
• Ability to work independently, be a self-starter, and detail-oriented.
• Ability to prioritize under pressure and stay organized.

• Contribute to project reviews and improve job efficiencies.
• Proficiency in CAD applications, including Autodesk.
• Knowledge of engineering standards, practices, methods, and techniques; basic cartography; and civil engineering principles.
• Knowledge of network assessment, modeling, and high-speed technology transports to deliver client-specific solutions.
• Apply common sense and understanding to carry out instructions in various forms.

• Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Telecommunications, or similar field.
