Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship

The position of Investment Specialist is assigned to the Agribusiness Investment Team within the Office of the Director General (OPSD) of the Private Sector Operations Department (PSOD). You will be based at our Headquarters in Manila, Philippines, and may have the opportunity to work in one of ADB's Resident Missions.

You will report to the Deputy Director General and designated international staff and will oversee national staff and administrative staff.

Your Role

As an Investment Specialist, you will lead in the identification, screening, due diligence, structuring, obtaining of approvals, negotiation, implementation and closing of direct debt financing and equity investments and technical assistance programs in food and agribusiness companies across ADB's developing member countries (DMCs), with a particular focus on the financing of climate adaptation and nature-based solutions.

You will:

  • Lead in identifying, developing, and processing transactions for ADB private sector direct agribusiness investment, focusing on climate adaptation and nature-based solutions.
  • Nurture active relationships with food and agribusiness companies, financiers, and advisors in the region.
  • Undertake comprehensive financial assessments, including analysis of audited financial statements and financial modeling.
  • Conduct due diligence on market, commercial, technical, environmental, social, corporate governance, and integrity issues.
  • Structure and negotiate financial assistance, ensuring proper risk management is applied.
  • Present transaction rationale and recommendations to ADB's Management and Board.
  • Ensure prompt financial closing of transactions with legal documentation reflecting ADB's decisions.
  • Contribute to the development of policy and strategies for ADB's developmental goals in the agribusiness sector.
  • Participate in country teams and missions for planning and programming.
  • Coordinate project-related work and strategy policy matters with other departments.
  • As project team leader, coordinate the work of project team members.
  • Oversee the performance of reporting staff and consultants, providing direction and feedback.
Qualifications

You will need:

  • Master's degree in business administration or finance, or a university degree in related fields with at least 5 years of specialized experience.
  • At least 8 years of relevant professional experience in corporate and project lending, investment banking, or private equity.
  • Excellent financial modeling, equity valuation, corporate and project finance skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English.
