Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationship

The Investment Specialist position is assigned to the Private Sector Financial Institutions Division (PSFI) within the Private Sector Operations Department (PSOD). You will report to the Director of PSFI and oversee Junior team members.

Your Role

As an Investment Specialist, you will lead the origination, development, due diligence, and processing of financial sector transactions through ADB Board approval and financial closure.

You will:

  1. Project Development and Processing:
    • Help develop a pipeline of financial sector projects, identifying opportunities aligned with strategic goals.
    • Lead or support the end-to-end processing of financial sector projects, from concept development through Board approval and financial closure.
    • Manage due diligence activities, including financial modeling, risk analysis, and mitigation in structuring loans, equity investments, guarantees, B-loans, or other forms of ADB assistance.
    • Oversee the internal approvals process, coordinating with credit, safeguards, integrity, legal, and other teams.
    • Ensure successful deal closure, working with internal and external counsel to finalize legal documentation.
    • Lead the implementation of private sector investments in financial institutions, ensuring compliance with applicable guidelines.
  2. Policy and Project Evaluation:
    • Draft or comment on projects, policy, and other papers related to private sector development and operations.
  3. Knowledge Sharing:
    • Contribute to internal and external training and conferences for advocacy and knowledge building.
    • Maintain knowledge of best practices in your area of expertise.
  4. Strategy and Planning:
    • Support country teams and missions for planning and programming purposes focusing on private sector operations.
  5. Staff Supervision:
    • Lead reporting staff by providing clear direction, monitoring performance, and supporting learning and development.
Qualifications

You will need:

  • A University degree in Business Administration or Finance; preferably at post-graduate level.
  • At least 6 years of professional experience in closing loan or equity transactions with financial institutions.
  • Hands-on experience analyzing credit risks and executing loans and equity investments.
  • Demonstrated international experience across multiple countries, including developing markets.
  • Capability in drafting high-quality investment proposals and Board papers.
  • Knowledge of financial instruments, risk mitigation, and investment structuring in developing markets.
  • Team management skills with experience in supervising and mentoring staff.
