Electrical Switchboard Designer

We have an opportunity for a self-motivated designer to join our team in the low voltage switchboard and control panel design and manufacturing industry. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work as part of a team with excellent attention to detail, enthusiastic, reliable and punctual.

The role of designer includes but is not limited to:

  1. Analysing and understanding schematics and control diagrams.
  2. Supporting Electrical Engineers in designing and arranging electrical setups and systems in substations, switchgear, cables, and motor controls.
  3. Utilising AutoCAD, MicroStation, Cubic or any other specialised software for designing and creating layouts for distribution systems, motor control switchboards, and other control panels.
  4. Defining and suggesting specifications and functional requirements for new projects.
  5. Implementing innovative solutions and developing customised design tools in software programs and spreadsheets to automate repetitive design tasks.
  6. Contributing to the development and enhancement of "Modular" Switchboard design, systems, and processes.
  7. Participating in the review and refinement of work practices to enhance efficiency in design, construction methods, and material usage.
  8. Participating in or aiding in the preparation of feasibility studies, surveys, reports, design layouts, specifications, bills of quantities, materials lists and sourcing updated pricing on material and equipment.
  9. Collecting data, performing tests and complex calculations, graphing results, and preparing charts and tabulations.
  10. Inspecting designs and finished products for compliance with specifications and regulations.

Desirable Competencies:

  1. Demonstrated proficiency using AutoCAD, MicroStation, Cubic or any other specialised design software.
  2. A background in switchboard manufacture and/or sheet metal manufacture would be highly regarded.
  3. Knowledge of relevant statutes, legislation and applicable Australian Standards including AS 3000 and AS 61439 (desirable but not essential).
  4. Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and general aptitude for computer programs.
  5. Well-developed collaborative working style.
  6. Must have a good attitude to safety and comply with all Company safety requirements.
  7. Excellent communication skills and a true team player.
  8. Excellent planning and time management capabilities with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  9. Adaptable and flexible approach to work.
  10. Have experience with Cubic, Elsteel and xEnergy modular systems (desirable but not essential).
  11. Ability to assist with assembling, installing, testing, calibrating, modifying, and repairing electrical equipment and installations to conform with regulations and safety requirements.

Essential Skills and Qualifications:

  1. Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Associate Degree or other relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering.
  2. Minimum of 2-3 years' experience in electrical switchboard design. Experience in control wiring and electrical switchboard manufacturing will be advantageous to complement design experience.
  3. Experience with AutoCAD, MicroStation or other specialised design software relevant to the design of switchboards.
