Who We Are

We are Digest PH, a fast-growing legal technology startup with an AI chatbot assisting hundreds of paying Philippine lawyers and law student subscribers with their legal research needs.

About the Role

We're looking for a Generative AI Engineer who can own our entire Generative AI product as Digest's success is highly reliant on you. You'll be in charge of everything AI and will be coordinating with programmers, customers, and the rest of the team in order to make the lives of our lawyers and law students as easy as possible. We have a current AI based in Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) but you will be responsible for designing, developing, and optimizing AI models that integrate retrieval-based approaches to enhance generative AI capabilities. The goal is to build the best-in-class legal research AI helping lawyers with their legal research and contract needs. Your work will involve:

  1. Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) – Designing retrieval mechanisms to enhance generative model outputs.
  2. Data Processing & Preparation – Recommending and implementing preprocessing, prompt, and post-processing techniques using industry-standard tools.
  3. Model Development – Building, fine-tuning, and optimizing generative AI models with leading ML/AI frameworks such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini.
  4. Model Specialization – Implementing advanced architectures and leveraging specialized libraries to enhance performance.
  5. Evaluation & Explainability – Assessing models using appropriate evaluation metrics and ensuring transparency through explainability tools.
  6. Insights & Communication – Translating complex AI outputs into actionable insights for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  7. Cloud Computing – Utilizing platforms like GCP and AWS for scalable AI solutions.
  8. Agentic Workflows & Embeddings – Implementing agent-based architectures and leveraging embedding models.
  9. Vector Databases – Working with tools for efficient data retrieval.

Role Requirements

We are looking for candidates who meet the following profile:

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Loves AI - Genuine interest in AI because it's interesting, not because it's trendy.
  2. Not Afraid to Show Your Work - Believes process is as important as getting to the right answer. Thinks twice before cutting once.
  3. Educational Background – Recent graduates with a strong foundation in data science, machine learning, or AI, OR professionals with years of relevant ML/AI experience.
  4. Programming Skills – Ability to write efficient, modular, and maintainable code.
  5. Problem-Solving Ability – Strong analytical and creative thinking to address diverse industry challenges.
  6. Communication Skills – Excellent verbal and written communication in English; ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences.
  7. Team Collaboration – Experience working in cross-functional teams, integrating technical expertise with strategic business insights.
  8. Adaptability & Learning Agility – Ability to quickly learn and apply new tools, frameworks, and methodologies.
  9. Resides in Metro Manila or nearby areas.

Preferred (but not required) Qualifications:

  1. Hands-on experience with data processing, ML model development, or GenAI (LLMs, diffusion models, etc.).
  2. Experience working with deep learning frameworks.
  3. Exposure to training models on large datasets (>10GB).
  4. Publications in peer-reviewed journals or conferences showcasing innovative AI/ML research.
