We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Data Infrastructure Engineer to design, implement, and optimize cloud-based and hybrid data architectures in an industrial environment. This role will be responsible for building highly scalable, secure, and resilient data infrastructure solutions that support advanced analytics, machine learning, and business intelligence applications. The ideal candidate must have extensive experience in cloud architectures, data storage technologies, and networking, as well as an in-depth understanding of industrial data systems, including power plant control systems, data historians, and asset management platforms. This role will also involve stakeholder management to align infrastructure strategies with business goals.

Please take note this is a part-time role with 2hrs/day.

Responsibilities and DutiesCloud and Data Infrastructure Architecture
  • Architect, design, and maintain cloud-based and hybrid data infrastructure to support large-scale industrial data processing.
  • Lead the selection, implementation, and optimization of cloud-native technologies such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud for scalable and secure data storage and processing.
  • Design and implement secure networking solutions, VPC configurations, and access controls to ensure data privacy and integrity.
  • Develop and enforce best practices for cloud governance, security, and cost management.
  • Oversee infrastructure automation and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) using tools such as Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Establish data backup, disaster recovery, and high-availability strategies to ensure resilience and business continuity.
Industrial Data System Integration
  • Lead the integration of operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) systems, including SCADA systems, data historians, IoT platforms, and real-time industrial data sources.
  • Design and implement data ingestion frameworks to collect and process data from power plant control systems, sensors, and enterprise applications.
  • Work with data engineers and analysts to ensure that data pipelines and storage solutions are optimized for performance, cost, and scalability.
  • Ensure data sovereignty, governance, and compliance with industry regulations and company policies.
  • Develop and maintain metadata management and data lineage tracking to improve transparency and data trust.
Performance Optimization & Infrastructure Monitoring
  • Implement observability solutions, including monitoring, logging, and alerting systems for cloud and on-premise environments.
  • Utilize performance tuning techniques to optimize database and storage performance in cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Conduct regular infrastructure audits and performance assessments to identify and mitigate bottlenecks.
  • Define and enforce SLA, SLO, and SLI metrics to measure infrastructure reliability and efficiency.
Stakeholder Management & Cross-Team Collaboration
  • Serve as the technical authority on cloud and infrastructure solutions, providing guidance to engineering teams, IT departments, and business leaders.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, security teams, DevOps professionals, and business stakeholders to ensure infrastructure alignment with business objectives.
  • Lead technical discussions, architecture reviews, and cloud strategy planning with executive leadership.
  • Educate and mentor junior and mid-level engineers, fostering best practices in cloud architecture, data security, and infrastructure management.
Security, Compliance & Data Governance
  • Design and implement robust security policies and IAM (Identity and Access Management) solutions for data infrastructure.
  • Ensure compliance with industrial cybersecurity standards, such as NERC CIP, ISO 27001, and GDPR.
  • Develop and maintain audit trails, access logs, and security monitoring to prevent unauthorized access and data breaches.
  • Collaborate with security teams to enforce encryption, key management, and vulnerability assessments.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Cloud Computing, or a related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in cloud infrastructure engineering, data platform architecture, or a similar role.
  • Deep expertise in cloud computing (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud), including compute, storage, networking, and security services.
  • Strong experience in database administration (SQL, NoSQL, time-series databases, and data lakes).
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible.
  • Proficiency in containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes, EKS, GKE, or AKS).
  • Extensive experience working with industrial systems, including power plant control systems, SCADA, and data historians.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity best practices, network security, and compliance frameworks.
  • Excellent interpersonal and stakeholder management skills, with experience in cross-functional team leadership.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with data mesh and federated data architectures.
  • Advanced knowledge of graph databases, event-driven architectures, and distributed systems.
  • Familiarity with MLOps, DevOps, and DataOps principles.
  • Prior experience working with big data processing frameworks (Apache Spark, Kafka, Flink, etc.).
  • Strong public speaking and presentation skills to influence executive decision-making.
