
Associate Consultant, APAC Compliance Testing

Role Summary:
As part of the compliance team, this role is tasked with the execution and active management of independent testing reviews for the region, ensuring targeted testing of regulatory obligations. GCT operates in the second line of defense and assists in the evaluation and implementation of the Northern Trust Compliance model.
The Compliance function is responsible for ongoing oversight and reporting regarding regulatory obligations to senior compliance and business management.
Major Duties:- Scopes, plans, conducts and documents independent compliance testing for Northern Trust, financial services regulated entities within the region, including the identification of testing requirements
- Implements and enhances the regional GCT program in coordination with local, regional and global GCT partners and regional compliance functions
- Executes the annual GCT plan by conducting GCT testing, working closely with manager and meeting scheduled deadlines
- Performs reviews within the deadlines and scope outlined and agreed while considering both global and regional requirements as well as local policies and regulations
- Follows established policies, procedures and standards for testing, including appropriately documenting testing performed
- Applies analytical skills to identify potential gaps or areas for control enhancement within the first and second lines of defense
- Validates and communicates results in clear, concise language, escalating key risks in a timely manner
- Tracks issues identified and conduct risk-based testing of solutions implemented
- Partners with Audit senior management, business partners and relevant compliance functions to coordinate GCT testing
- Develops strong relationships with Business Units
- On an ad hoc basis, advises business partners on applicable laws, regulations, rules, standards and best practices which may impact their business
- Works closely with global and regional GCT teams as required
- Works in partnership with the wider Compliance, Risk and Controls teams
- Produces and analyzes GCT reports and data for internal committees and boards
- Attends training and information sessions to continue to build knowledge regarding the regulatory environment and to enhance personal development
- Solves problems in straightforward situations
- Analyzes possible solutions using technical experience and judgment and precedents
- Impacts quality of own work and the work of others on the team
- Works within guidelines and policies
- Requires ability to communicate in a clear, concise and effective manner (verbal and written)
- Requires experience related to monitoring/testing, including planning of tests, ideally gained through experience in compliance testing, operational risk or internal/external audit
- General knowledge of bank compliance regulations; knowledge of specific topics such as payments, market abuse, privacy, AML, ABC, Sanctions, fraud is a plus
- Requires understanding of regional regulations and relevant laws
- Requires knowledge of Custody, Asset Servicing, FX, Fund Administration, Brokerage businesses as well as corporate governance such as outsourcing and bank secrecy requirements.
- Displays confidence and expertise to advise management and the business
- Requires experience providing compliance advisory and operational support
- Requires proactivity and minimal supervision

- A College or University degree and/or relevant proven work experience is required
- 5-7 or more years' experience, preferably in Compliance or risk management;
- With at least 3 years of experience in Audit, Control or Compliance testing or equivalent related experience.
