The role of the Youth Worker is to provide supervision and support to young people subject to a youth justice intervention.
You understand the impacts of historical and contemporary policy and practices upon Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. You have a demonstrated ability to engage and communicate effectively, and with humility, with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Travel away from centre: while the position is based in Emerald, travel is a requirement of the role. Travel locations may include Woorabinda, Blackwater, Barcaldine and Longreach. Depending on distance, this may include overnight stays.
Responsibilities- Demonstrate cultural capability and/or a commitment to developing cultural capability to ensure an inclusive culture that aligns with the Human Rights Act 2019 and supports departmental programs and community partnerships aimed at preserving cultural connections for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
- Provide supervision and support to young people in accordance with relevant legislative provisions, strategic priorities, statutory delegations, departmental policies, procedures and contemporary best practice.
- Support the Team Leader in relation to the maintenance of services for young people subject to youth justice interventions.
- Provide supervision and support to young people to assist with their compliance with court orders and reintegration into the community in accordance with the case plan.
- Negotiate with other Government and community agencies, on behalf of young people, so as to enhance their access to services in accordance with the case plan.
- Maintain records of program attendance and prepare reports to assist case planning and reviews and attend these meetings as required.
- Successful applicants will be subject to either criminal history check or Blue Card screening.
- Successful applicants who are either a current or previous public sector employee will be required to disclose previous serious disciplinary history.
- Citizenship/Visa: to be employed in a position, you must be an Australian citizen, have permanent residency status or a visa permitting you to work in Australia.
- A mandatory 6-month probationary period will apply to successful applicants for permanent roles who are external to the public service. Confirmation of appointment after the probationary period will depend on a satisfactory performance review.
- Rural and Remote Incentive Allowance of $2,500 every 6 months
- Locality Allowance paid fortnightly of $33.30 ($66.60 with dependents)
