HORNE, one of the largest accounting and consulting firms in the Southeast, is seeking an individual who is energized by helping organizations navigate the next wave of innovation and change. The Data Scientist will use the latest techniques in AI/ML to solve business challenges and address client needs. This pivotal role will be responsible for strategic planning and related innovation to build secure and scalable solutions that help our clients gain a competitive advantage. The person will design and run experiments, research new algorithms and techniques, find new ways to optimize profitability and customer experience while minimizing risk. In collaboration with Product Management, he/she will use both traditional methods and new advancements in AI/ML to support the recommendation for solutions that meet our clients' needs and put the firm in an advantageous position.

Key Responsibilities

The Data Scientist job duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Work with a cross-functional team of data scientists, software engineers, machine learning engineers, and product managers to deliver AI-powered products.
  • Conduct AI/ML assessments and develop rapid prototypes to showcase business process improvements, industry benefits, and market viability.
  • Work with stakeholders inside HORNE as well as with our customers to identify opportunities for leveraging meaningful data to drive AI output.
  • Assess the quality of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
  • Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets. Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences.
  • Create new, experimental frameworks and utilize ML technology.
  • Deploy programmatic solutions into VMs, Cloud computing tools for automation.
  • Use various data visualization and UX techniques to materialize AI output.
  • Handle tasks for multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Leverage a broad stack of technologies — Azure, Data Lake, Data Streaming, Supervised and Unsupervised Machine Learning — to reveal the insights hidden within large volumes of numeric and textual data.
  • Understand when and how to apply Deep Learning & Large Language Models (LLMs).
  • Build machine learning models through all phases of development, from design through training, evaluation, validation, and implementation.
  • Leverage strong interpersonal skills to translate the complexity of your work into tangible business goals.
Requirements:
  • Required 5+ years of experience in a relevant role.
  • Bachelor's Degree plus 5 years of experience in data science or statistics/analytics, or Master's Degree plus 3 years in data science or statistics/analytics, or PhD.
  • 5+ years of experience with data querying languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab, etc.).
  • 5+ years of experience with algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, high-performance computing, neural deep learning methods, and LLMs.
  • 5+ years of experience in one or more of the following languages: Python, R, SQL.
  • Experience with one or more data visualization tools: Tableau, Power BI, R Shiny, Seaborn.
  • 1+ years of experience deploying models into production environments.
  • Experience/proficiency with Pandas Libraries (Python-based).
  • Experience/proficiency in relational databases such as: SQL.
  • Cloud Computing using AWS, Azure, and/or Google Cloud.
  • Experience deploying models in a production environment.
  • Ability to learn and use new tools as required in the field of data.
  • Data Visualization & BI tools understanding.
  • Distributed computing & data transformation.
  • Use of version control tools such as GitHub.
