Gen AI Engineer

This role will report to the Head of AI Strategy and Adoption and sit within the CDO office of the bank. It is critical in driving AI adoption and enablement across bank functions. The role is to deploy as a member of the Function Squads focused on FinCrime, augmented with resources from the partners.

Strategy

• Deliver, build and maintain the data-driven solutions that are core to Group Operations strategy.

Business

• Provide thought leadership in data science techniques and business applications to unlock the value of SCB's data sets and external information.
• Continuously assess the environment to challenge assumptions around new data sources, potential analytics partners, tools, talent and infrastructure.
• Engage with internal clients to improve delivery of analytic projects.
• Explore leading methodologies and best practices and import successful methodologies from international markets.

Regulatory & Business Conduct

• Display exemplary conduct and live by the Group's Values and Code of Conduct.
• Take personal responsibility for embedding the highest standards of ethics, including regulatory and business conduct, across Standard Chartered Bank. Ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and the Group Code of Conduct.

Key Stakeholders

• Business Analysts, Business Partners, COO Business, ITO, CDO, internal staff, clients and 3rd parties.

Other Responsibilities

• Work with senior management to develop and refine the bank's AI strategy, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
• Identify and prioritize AI use cases with significant business value.
• Develop business cases for AI projects, including cost-benefit analysis, risk assessment, and ROI estimation.

Qualification

• Education Proficiency in Python and ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn) to build and deploy production-grade machine learning models.
• Languages: English

Role Specific Technical Competencies

• Building and deploying machine learning models to detect and prevent financial crimes, reducing fraud losses.
• Implement Generative AI solutions to generate synthetic data for training, improving model accuracy in FinCrime and Compliance use cases.
• Mentor and guide a team of ML engineers and data scientists, fostering technical excellence and innovation within FinCrime and Compliance.
• Lead a team to deliver production-ready ML pipelines within 6 months, integrating real-time transaction monitoring for AML compliance.
• Optimize feature engineering and model tuning to increase detection rates of suspicious activities.
• Roll out scalable ML systems processing millions of transactions daily, reducing false positives in compliance alerts.
• Drive adoption of advanced ML algorithms to identify sanctions evasion patterns, cutting investigation times for compliance teams.
• Deliver quarterly reports showing improvements in FinCrime KPIs, such as alert accuracy and case resolution speed, to senior management.
• Execute A/B testing on ML-driven compliance tools, achieving a statistically significant boost in operational efficiency.
• Hands-on experience with LLM techniques (e.g., RAG, Agents, Graph RAG) to improve FinCrime detection accuracy.
• Expertise in model optimization and hyperparameter tuning for high precision and recall in fraud detection and compliance applications.
• Advanced understanding of statistical methods and anomaly detection to identify suspicious patterns in financial data.
