Systems Engineer

Overview

The Cloud Engineer (Systems Engineer) works closely with cloud platform engineering, architecture, and development teams to run and operate cloud-native, DevOps delivered, highly scalable and fault tolerant systems and services. The Cloud Engineer ensures that internally and externally facing systems meet and exceed ambitious SLAs and are continuously improved. This includes deployments and monitoring of all systems through established tools. The incumbent is an intellectually curious technologist up to date with technology trends in the industry, equally relishing challenges to optimize existing systems and services, and challenges to introduce modern technologies. They will execute, monitor, and assist in the development of automation delivered by the Engineering team. The incumbent will execute operations and engineering projects and provide support for and administration of all DevSecOps tools, cloud automation, critical business applications and platforms, and associated systems to build and run software in the cloud.

• Supports DevSecOps tools, pipeline, automation, and infrastructure-as-code scripts; continuously monitors the industry landscape to improve and expand speed to market and team autonomy.
• Executes established automation for updates.
• Participates in incident response, root cause/postmortem analysis, and drives production improvements for key issues that create business opportunities.
• Provides guidance to engineering and operations teams on enabling and managing end-to-end availability and performance of mission-critical services.
• Works on building automation to eliminate waste and manual/repetitive tasks, prevent problem recurrence, and respond to service alerts and condition metrics.
• Supports Kubernetes cloud clusters in Azure and AWS, including cluster management, upgrades, security policies, and application deployment with Argo CD in collaboration with engineering and development teams.
• Executes and manages infrastructure-as-code automation with Terraform.
• Executes tasks aligned to projects in the operations space (upgrades, rollouts of technology, etc.).
• Promotes a continuous improvement, innovation, and collaboration culture across teams.
• Builds and strengthens relationships with corporate infrastructure leads and teams.
• Knows security is a priority and includes security in all planning and work.
• Incumbents may be asked to perform other duties as required.

• Working knowledge of infrastructure operations and engineering concepts in AWS and Azure, and IT tools (monitoring, logging, alerting, Service Now, etc.).
• Strategic problem solving, analytical and decision-making ability, with a sense of urgency; demonstrated experience in a production environment.
• Desire to measure and continuously improve with a metrics-and-reporting mindset.
• Experience building, maintaining, monitoring, logging, and optimizing cloud-native business solutions.
• Experience with Terraform, Kubernetes environments (AKS/EKS), GitHub Actions libraries, and scripting (Bash, Python, etc.).
• Experience with Azure and AWS cloud platforms.
• Experience with DevOps (CI/CD) tools and patterns; Data DevOps, DevSecOps (container scanning, CVE remediation, etc.).
• Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate technical concepts to technical and non-technical audiences.
• Exceptional customer and end-user experience focus; ability to establish relationships and influence colleagues at all levels; identify needs and issues.
• Experience with continuous (blue/green) deployment and canary testing.
• Experience working in a hybrid on- and offshore model.

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems, or related field, or equivalent work experience. Typical requirement: 3 years of equivalent work experience across infrastructure and software engineering.
