Key Responsibilities:
Food Preparation and Cooking:
Prepare and cook breakfast, lunch, and snack menu items according to established recipes.
Ensure food is cooked to the correct temperature and in accordance with food safety standards.
Assist with portioning ingredients and preparing dishes in advance for busy periods.
Handle kitchen equipment such as grills, stoves, fryers, ovens, and blenders.
Customize dishes based on customer preferences or special dietary needs (e.g., vegetarian, gluten-free).
Menu and Recipe Adherence:
Follow café’s menu guidelines, ensuring consistency and presentation in all dishes.
Prepare items such as sandwiches, salads, soups, pastries, and baked goods.
Suggest improvements or modifications to existing menu items, working with management to innovate.
Maintaining Cleanliness and Hygiene:
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen and work area at all times.
Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
Follow food safety and sanitation regulations, including proper storage of ingredients and waste disposal.
Clean workstations and ensure the kitchen area is tidy during and after food preparation.
Inventory Management:
Monitor inventory levels for ingredients and supplies.
Assist in ordering ingredients and ensuring the kitchen is stocked with necessary items.
Properly store ingredients, checking expiration dates and ensuring freshness.
Quality Control:
Ensure that food items are cooked to the proper specifications and are visually appealing.
Maintain consistency in the quality of food served to customers.
Adjust cooking times or techniques as necessary to maintain food quality.
Team Collaboration:
Work closely with other kitchen staff and front-of-house employees to ensure smooth service.
Communicate effectively with baristas, waitstaff, and management to meet customer orders and expectations.
Assist other kitchen team members as needed during peak hours.
Customer Interaction:
Occasionally interact with customers, especially in a café-style setting where customer requests may influence food preparation.
Ensure that any food allergies or special dietary requirements are taken into account during preparation.
Health and Safety Compliance:
Ensure the kitchen environment is safe and that food is prepared in compliance with local health and safety regulations.
Keep the kitchen area organized to avoid accidents or hazards, such as slips, trips, and burns.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
Experience: Previous experience in a kitchen environment, particularly in cafes or restaurants, is preferred.
Culinary Skills: Knowledge of basic cooking techniques, knife skills, and kitchen equipment.
Organization: Ability to handle multiple orders at once, prioritize tasks, and maintain a clean and organized workspace.
Attention to Detail: Ensuring that food is presented according to the café's standards and recipes.
Time Management: Ability to work efficiently and quickly in a busy environment without compromising quality.
Communication Skills: Clear communication with other staff and the ability to follow instructions from management.
