Overview

The On-Site Design Officer oversees design-related aspects of construction projects at the site, ensuring that the design intent is implemented, coordinating with contractors and consultants, and resolving design issues during construction. The architect/engineer acts as a bridge between design and execution, maintaining quality, compliance, and timely delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Design Implementation & Oversight: ensure architectural/engineering plans and specifications are correctly interpreted and executed on-site; monitor construction activities to verify alignment with approved drawings and design intent; provide, review and approve site drawings including shop drawings and spot details (RFA/RFI); conduct regular inspections and site walks; and check materials against submittals/product data for compliance.
  • Coordination & Communication: collaborate with architects, engineers, contractors, and other stakeholders to resolve design-related issues; attend coordination meetings and provide architectural input during site discussions; liaise with the design team for clarifications, revisions, and updates; participate, coordinate and schedule consultant attendance during construction meetings and site inspections.
  • Quality Assurance & Compliance: review materials/finishes to ensure compliance with design specifications; ensure construction adheres to codes, zoning laws, and safety regulations; prepare and submit inspection requests and punch lists; monitor progress during the execution phase; prepare punch list reports for defects; conduct spot checks to maintain compliance with standards; ensure proper testing and reporting of materials.
  • Documentation & Reporting: maintain updated architectural drawings, revisions, and site instructions; prepare daily/weekly site reports highlighting progress; perform spot checks on as-built drawings and internal references.
  • Problem Solving & Technical Support: provide immediate solutions to architectural issues; recommend feasible design adjustments; support the project site team with technical details and clarifications; maintain inspection checklists and records; prepare weekly progress reports.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Must be a graduate of Architecture and/or Civil Engineering.
  • At least 5 years of work experience related to construction operation.
  • Focused, driven, team player; able to work under pressure.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Knowledge and experience in infrastructure development and civil works is a plus.
