Tax Consultant – Custody Tax Operations (Manila)

Role/ Department: As part of the Custody Tax Operations team, the Tax Consultant is at the centre of International withholding tax processing. Reporting to the Team Manager, the Tax Consultant's responsibilities include ensuring that team requests are recorded and managed, and accurately identifying, processing and tracking tax relief at source or reclaims on behalf of Northern Trust's global client base to maximize tax benefits. The role requires responding quickly and professionally to inquiries and a focus on continually improving client service.

Key responsibilities

  • Take on assigned tasks from the Management group and work independently on tasks most of the time.
  • Execute complex tax processes requiring interpretation of policies, guidelines and processes, either independently or in support of other Partners.
  • Own one or more processes, reports and/or procedures.
  • Review work of others including tax breakdowns and/or tax reclaims.
  • Provide training and control reporting as needed.
  • Handle complex queries and refer complicated issues to higher level specialists and/or regional tax team as needed.
  • Perform market analysis as required.
  • Maintain focus on operational risk and controls, ensuring procedures are followed and updated; guide other Partners as required.
  • Attend internal and external operational meetings as needed, taking a lead on behalf of the team.
  • Be aware of all service level agreements in place.
  • Research market changes and collaborate with other teams to implement changes from an operational tax perspective.
