The Linux Support Engineer will handle escalated technical issues from L1 service desk agents, providing advanced troubleshooting, connectivity support, and expert user guidance for Linux environments. This includes SSH, networking, server configuration, user management, performance, and custom scripting solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Resolve complex incidents and service requests escalated from L1, focusing on Linux system connectivity (wired, wireless, VPN), SSH problems, user management, and general end-user issues.
  • Diagnose, triage, and solve advanced Linux OS and application issues affecting desktop, server, and virtualized environments.
  • Troubleshoot and configure network services (DNS, DHCP, NFS, FTP, LDAP), security policies, firewalls, and protocol-related concerns.
  • Assist with user profile and permission management, PAM, and authentication setups.
  • Perform system upgrades, patch deployments, and advanced configuration tasks according to established change management procedures.
  • Document all troubleshooting steps, solutions, and escalation paths for recurring issues.
  • Mentor L1 staff and provide technical training or reference documentation as needed.
  • Participate in periodic on-call support and contribute to root cause analysis efforts for critical outages.
  • Collaborate with other technical teams, escalate deeper problems to L3 or development, and assist with infrastructure automation and scripting (Bash, Python, Perl).

Required Skills & Experience

  • Good English communications skills
  • 3+ years proven experience in Linux system administration or support roles, including desktop and server environments.
  • Expertise in troubleshooting Linux connectivity issues, SSH configurations/keys, and remote access protocols.
  • Strong understanding of Linux networking, system security measures, and performance optimization.
  • Proficiency with shell scripting, monitoring tools, and configuration management.
  • Experience supporting heterogeneous environments (Windows, Linux, cloud, and physical servers) is an advantage.
  • Familiarity with ticketing platforms and ITIL support workflows.
  • Certifications such as RHCE, RHCSA, CompTIA Linux+, or LPIC are preferred.
  • Excellent problem-solving abilities, customer-focus, and communication skills.
