Overview

The role focuses on managing and optimizing database infrastructure in the Azure cloud, with emphasis on Azure Cosmos DB and MongoDB, to support applications and data-driven initiatives across regions.

Responsibilities
  • Database Design & Implementation – Design and implement database solutions using Azure Cosmos DB and MongoDB best practices. Create data models, schemas, and database management processes tailored to application needs.
  • Performance Optimization – Monitor and tune database performance, including queries and indexing strategies. Implement data partitioning, sharding, and replication to ensure high availability and scalability.
  • Security & Compliance – Implement security measures to protect data in compliance with regulations. Monitor access control and audit logs to ensure data security practices are followed.
  • Backup & Recovery – Establish and manage backup and recovery processes for database environments to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Data Migration & Integration – Plan and execute data migrations from on-premises databases or other cloud systems to Azure Cosmos DB and MongoDB. Integrate databases with existing applications and services, ensuring seamless data flow.
Technical skills
  • Primary skills: Azure-Cosmos-MongoDB & Scripting (Ansible, MongoDB Shell, Python, PowerShell, Terraform)
  • Secondary skills: Oracle, SQL-Server & PostgreSQL
  • Experience with Cosmos DB/MongoDB scaling across data centers and/or HA strategies (replica sets, sharding)
  • Analyze SQL query plans and optimize for performance; troubleshoot performance bottlenecks and optimize queries
  • Monitor and troubleshoot database issues, including performance bottlenecks, query optimization, and replication problems
  • Optimize database performance through indexing, partitioning, and tuning
  • Ensure high availability through replication, failover, and other redundancy measures
  • Enforce security best practices (data masking, encryption, RBAC)
  • Automate routine DB administration tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and ARM templates
  • Document configurations, processes, and best practices; contribute to internal knowledge resources
  • Stay updated with latest database technologies and Azure cloud services
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to design and implement solutions aligned with business objectives
  • Provide 24/7 support for critical database systems and assist with complex troubleshooting
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field
  • Azure and/or MongoDB certifications (e.g., Azure Database Administrator Associate, MongoDB Certified Developer)
  • 7+ years of experience in database engineering with focus on Azure, Cosmos DB, and MongoDB
  • Familiarity with Azure services such as Azure Functions, Azure Logic Apps, or Azure Data Factory is a plus
