OverviewMBPS Actuarial department provides actuarial services to Manulife business areas across Asia and North America, specializing in model validation, experience studies and valuation work. The Actuarial Development Program offers support for Society of Actuaries exams and opportunities to rotate into new roles to broaden knowledge and experience.
Responsibilities- Develop and test actuarial models in GGY Axis or other software.
- Maintain and run valuation models for monthly/quarterly reserve calculation and financial reporting.
- Analyze reserve, capital and risk calculations and provide commentary on results to management.
- Mentor junior team members and review their valuation work.
- Support control walkthroughs ensuring key controls, audit evidence collection and presentation are in accordance with SOX guidelines.
Actively participates on project teams to ensure tasks meet requirements and deadlines.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, or Statistics
- Strong knowledge of actuarial concepts and their application to life insurance – probability, interest theory, life contingencies
- Demonstrated strong quantitative, analytical and problem solving skills
- Ability to communicate complex actuarial concepts clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
- Strong interpersonal skills; good team player
- Ability to perform tasks with minimal supervision and work well under pressure
- Strong knowledge in database software and Microsoft Excel; VBA macros and actuarial modeling software (e.g., GGY Axis) are preferred but not required
- Driven to attain designation in recognized actuarial organizations (e.g., SoA, ASP); has passed at least three SoA preliminary exams
