Overview

Responsible for operating and maintaining various printing equipment, ensuring high-quality print production by managing print jobs, preparing files for printing, performing quality checks, and collaborating with clients to fulfill their printing needs, often including tasks like setting up machines, troubleshooting issues, and maintaining inventory of printing supplies; essentially overseeing the entire print production process to deliver timely and accurate printed materials.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of a printing specialist may include:

  • Operating printing equipment: Running digital and large format printers, copiers, laminators, binders, cutters, and other print finishing machinery.
  • File Preparation: Receiving design files, ensuring they are print-ready by checking color profiles, resolution, and formatting according to specifications.
  • Quality Control: Performing regular quality checks throughout the printing process to identify and address any issues with color accuracy, alignment, and print defects.
  • Client Interaction: Taking print orders, discussing project requirements with clients, providing advice on printing options, and managing expectations regarding turnaround times and pricing.
  • Job Scheduling: Prioritizing print jobs based on deadlines and coordinating production schedules to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Maintenance and troubleshooting: Performing routine maintenance on printing equipment, identifying and resolving technical issues, and coordinating repairs with vendors when necessary.
  • Inventory Management: Monitoring paper stock, ink levels, and other printing supplies, placing orders as needed.
Qualifications
  • NC-II
  • NBI CLEARANCE
  • Basic design skills: May include tasks like simple layout adjustments, image resizing, and font selection to prepare files for printing.
  • Required skills for a printing specialist:
  • Technical knowledge: Understanding of printing technologies, color theory, and various print formats.
  • Software proficiency: Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign), print management software, and file conversion tools.
  • Attention to detail: Ability to consistently produce high-quality prints with precise color matching and accurate registration.
  • Problem-solving skills: Identifying and troubleshooting printing issues quickly and effectively.
  • Customer service skills: Excellent communication to interact with clients, understand their needs, and address concerns.
  • Organizational skills: Managing multiple projects simultaneously while meeting deadlines.
  • Work environments where printing specialists are typically employed: Print shops, Copy centers, Marketing departments within companies, Graphic design studios, and In-house printing facilities.
