Available Location: Italy, Milan Please note: Fluency in Italian is required for this role What you’ll do The Pre-Sales Solutions Engineering organization is responsible for the technical sale of Cloudflare solutions, ensuring maximum business value, fit-for-purpose solution design, and efficient adoption roadmaps for customers. Our team is diverse, coming from backgrounds including IT, engineering, product management, financial consulting, customer support, and project delivery. As a Solutions Engineer, you are the technical customer advocate within Cloudflare. You will support customers and collaborate with Sales, Product, Engineering, and Customer Support to drive customer success and create scalable solutions for customer needs. The role requires broad knowledge of Internet performance and security technologies and the ability to maintain and develop new knowledge amid rapid product innovation. All resources and training needed to be effective in the role are provided. Responsibilities Act as the technical customer advocate and collaborate with cross-functional teams to meet customer needs. Assist customers in achieving technical wins and adopt Cloudflare solutions over competitors’ offerings. Explain complex technical concepts in clear, understandable terms to customers. Identify challenges and pain points and help design scalable, value-driven solutions. Qualifications and Experience 3 to 10 years of experience in the IT industry (early or mid-level). Excellent communication and presentation skills with strong command of business English and regional language requirements when applicable. Ability to manage projects, meet deadlines, and prioritize competing demands. Empathy for customers and ability to identify challenges and pain points. Understanding of how the Internet works, including: Differences between TCP and UDP and context for applications. Difference between authoritative DNS and recursive DNS. Role of a firewall, importance of TLS/SSL, HTTP fundamentals, and willingness to dive deeper into client/server nuances. Understanding of how customers make buying decisions and ability to explain ROI. Knowledge of the competitive landscape for one or more of: DDoS, CDN, Performance, DNS, Developer platform, or Zero-Trust/SASE providers. Willingness to travel (approximately 10–15 days per quarter) to customer sites, conferences, or talks. Bonus Previous experience in a pre-sales SE or consulting role (industry agnostic). Experience with scripting languages (e.g., Python, JavaScript, Bash) and a desire to expand skills. Exposure to emerging security trends such as Zero Trust. What Makes Cloudflare Special?
