Position Overview The Controls Engineer designs, develops, and implements electrical controls and automation systems to meet customer expectations. Collaborates with mechanical design engineers, writes programs and operational procedures for industrial material handling equipment, and supports systems during and after installation. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Interpret customer requirements, identify design parameters and engineering problems, and ensure solutions are implemented accurately and on budget through clear communication. Commission custom product solutions and systems, assist installation and troubleshoot control systems. Lead as Project Manager representing electrical and programming functions for all projects. Organize Controls Engineering workload and set deadlines for milestones. Support manufacture, build and validation of systems including pneumatics, hydraulics, servos, variable frequency drives, relays, communication networks, touchscreens, pushbuttons, robotics, and integrations. Write AGV programs in structured text for varying machine designs and applications. Create system logic for AGV fleets. Work with customers to establish AGV communication with the facility operational system. Perform startup and diagnostic tests on newly manufactured AGVs before completion. Assist application sales engineers and product engineers in estimating cost of controls. Develop cost‑effective designs through key selection of control components to maximize profitability and collaborate with purchasing. Draw and review control schematics, interpret shop edits and implement them into final drafts. Write PLC programs that are simple to test, well documented and versatile. Assist in creating operation and maintenance manuals related to controls. Balance multiple projects and prevent scope creep. SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE AutoCAD Electrical Project Management Structured Text CANbus & Ethernet communications Read, edit, and troubleshoot in Codesys Allen‑Bradley products and software, writing Ladder Logic, maintaining schematics/programs for warranty/repairs NEC rules and best practices Microsoft 365 Mechanical knowledge (must have) EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Controls Engineering Degree Experience Required (Any of) AutoCAD Electrical: 1 year Allen‑Bradley PLC: 1 year Electrical or automation: 1 year Language and Reasoning Skills Ability to read, analyze, and interpret component cut sheets, vendor quotes, and sales proposals. Respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or business community members. REASONING ABILITY Apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Deal with nonverbal symbolism (scientific equations, graphs, etc.) in difficult phases. Deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables.
