Overview Director, Innovation Enablement - GCIO (Based in Hong Kong or London) at HSBC Join to lead the foundational innovation tools, processes and internal capabilities with a holistic strategy for talent engagement and a culture of innovation. This role will lead a team across several major jurisdictions and has significant engagement responsibility across the bank. This role may be based in Hong Kong or London. Role purpose We are seeking a talented candidate with an entrepreneurship mindset to join a growing team as the global director for Innovation Enablement. This is a critical role focused on enabling innovation across HSBC, including internal and external innovation events and challenges, and aligning with bank priorities and funding cycles. Team / Group context Group Innovation and Digital Partnerships (IDP) leads the group-wide approach to innovation, driving customer-centric growth through strategic digital partnerships, emerging technologies, enablement of innovation, and strategic pursuits. The HSBC Emerging Technology, Innovation and Ventures team focuses on emerging trends to deliver digital-first banking globally. Key Areas Of Focus Leading partnerships with strategic technology providers, top innovation hubs and universities Delivery of common innovation platforms, capabilities, tools, and best practices Driving a culture of innovation through talent upskilling, innovation challenges, and external FinTech events Leading a group-wide patent and technology research strategy and commercialization approach Identifying strategic pursuits and disruptors and implementing defensive measures to protect HSBC’s future Key Responsibilities Common technology capabilities and platforms: Create a consistent framework, tooling, best practices and platforms for ideation and experimentation. Develop an effective ideation funnel. Address barriers to innovation: Continuously identify and resolve barriers to innovation. Intrapreneurship and Culture of Innovation: Define and implement a global strategy for talent upskilling, communities, tools, and culture of innovation practices with executive sponsorship across the bank. Internal Innovation: Enhance internal innovation impact by aligning initiatives with bank priorities and funding cycles. External FinTech and Innovation events: Strategy, sponsorship and execution in leading innovation hubs where HSBC has a strategic presence. Governance Part of the Group Innovation and Digital Partnerships leadership team. Participate in forums and committees as defined. Leadership & Collaboration Lead and manage the Innovation Enablement team globally Lead innovation communities of practice Engage across the organisation with business and technology Functional Knowledge Stakeholder engagement: Engaging diverse stakeholders to align innovation with bank priorities Collaboration: Facilitate cross-functional workshops, hackathons, and innovation sprints Innovation culture: Build and sustain a culture of innovation, intrapreneurship, and cross-functional collaboration Barrier identification and resolution: Diagnose and resolve systemic barriers; knowledge of continuous improvement Agile innovation: Lean startup and agile methodologies to accelerate idea-to-MVP cycles Operational: Provide platforms and tools as a service to a large enterprise Strategic: Define and lead strategies Other Requirements Entrepreneurship mindset and adaptability as HSBC matures Trusted across financial services with senior leadership experience Experience in developing and implementing innovation products and capabilities Ability to interact with internal and external stakeholders including customers, product teams, regulators, industry groups, and HSBC senior leadership Results-oriented, collaborative, and able to navigate complex challenges Customer and teammate focus with dedication to achieving goals Experience Broad and comprehensive understanding across multiple disciplines or fast-changing disciplines Business / Commercial knowledge Understanding of value units/products/regions/entities; strong knowledge of HSBC’s products and services and the industry landscape Leadership Management of a sizeable team, including budget and planning responsibilities Problem Solving Complex judgement requiring innovative approaches and extensive research Innovation Proactive in developing ideas, driving improvements, and implementing value-adding innovations Accountability / Decision Making Latitude to decide within HSBC global objectives with limited guidance; responsible for strategy in line with business goals Strategic Responsibility Sets strategy for value unit/region/product/entity Communication Needs high-level listening and negotiation skills; may involve internal and external negotiations impacting the function or business unit Opening up a world of opportunity HSBC is committed to building a culture where all employees are valued, respected and opinions count.
