Portcast is transforming international supply chains to be more resilient by helping logistics companies realize the full potential of their data. We cater to both shipping lines and cargo airlines, covering 90% of world trade volume by ocean and 35% of world trade value by air. We use proprietary machine learning algorithms and real-time external market data to predict cargo shipments and arrivals and deliver actionable insights. Portcast’s solutions are used by global freight forwarders, manufacturers and cargo airlines to deliver fast, reliable and secure predictions that unlock profitability and value in logistics data.

As our Senior Software Engineer (Full Stack, majority of the work is Backend), you will work closely with our Product team to develop new products, scale existing ones and manage deployments and architecture.

• Design, build and maintain APIs, services and systems and debug production issues across multiple levels of the stack.
• Collaborate with Business, Product and Data Science teams to understand and solve customer pain points at scale.
• Design, Develop, Implement and Deploy enterprise-level, high-availability web application platforms, with support from the design team at Portcast.
• Create a technology infrastructure that scales; design and improve system architecture.
• Keep up to date on the latest software development technologies and methodologies to keep Portcast technically at the forefront.

• Bachelor s or Master s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering or equivalent work experience.
• Minimum 5+ years of experience in a technical role designing, developing and releasing technical solutions.
• Strong problem-solving ability with a first-principles mindset and the capacity to break complex problems into smaller parts; generate multiple solutions and choose the best with sound reasoning.
• System Architecture: experience building scalable products or systems; comfortable handling multiple data sources and moving pieces with meticulous attention to detail.
• Team Player: experience in a diverse, dynamic, cross-cultural team; drive engineering excellence and participate in architectural discussions; hands-on, milestone-driven, agile mindset.
• Empathetic Communicator: ability to convey nuanced ideas clearly and engage constructively in disagreements.
• Tech Stack: Python-based backend, Flask, AWS; RESTful API design; Docker, Git, Elasticsearch, Spark, CI/CD are a plus; able to learn new stacks quickly.
• Experience as an early engineering hire at a startup that built a product from scratch to scale is desirable.
