You will be responsible for building and continuously improving our engineering practices while strengthening the technical and leadership skills of our engineers. Reporting directly to the Head of Software Engineering, you will collaborate with other department heads to ensure company and departmental goals are met, with a focus on technical excellence, innovation, and agile delivery.

You will design, challenge, and guide technical decisions while coaching, inspiring, and enabling your team. Balance immediate business needs with long-term scalability.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and coach engineering teams while staying close to the codebase to guide technical direction.
• Drive architectural decisions, software design, and technical implementation with engineers.
• Manage multiple teams and improve agile practices.
• Collaborate with product and business stakeholders to align priorities and deliver value.
• Foster a culture of technical excellence, creativity, and accountability.
• Define and update objectives with the team to align with business goals.
• Balance short-term delivery with long-term scalability and talent development.
• Identify opportunities for innovation in process, tools, and technology.
• Support budgeting and resource allocation with technical insight.
• Champion best practices, code quality, testing, and operational excellence.
• Inspire the team with stretch goals and enable success.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field (or equivalent practical experience).
• 5–7 years of software engineering experience, with 2–3 years in technical leadership or management roles.
• Proven track record in designing, developing, deploying, and scaling software solutions.
• Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and communication skills.
• Ability to operate in fast-paced environments and balance competing priorities; strong mentoring and coaching skills.
• Creative, able to challenge conventional approaches and drive innovative solutions.
• Strong leadership and accountability.

Bonus Points

• Experience in transportation/mobility or startup experience.
• Certifications in Agile, Scrum, PMP, or similar.
• Experience leading cloud-native, mobile-first, or large-scale distributed systems.
