Let’s talk about how we can empower you with your skills in your next career opportunities Position Overview Reporting to the Senior Manager, Technical Design – Signage, the Signage & Metal Fabrication Designer transforms design intent into manufacturable, cost-efficient, and visually accurate signage solutions. This role requires strong technical design ability combined with creative visualization skills to interpret and adjust signage designs based on references, client standards, and environmental context. The designer bridges the gap between design intent, engineering feasibility, and manufacturing precision, ensuring every project is optimized for both aesthetics and fabrication. Key Responsibilities 1. Technical Design & Visualization Develop detailed fabrication and assembly drawings using SolidWorks and AutoCAD. Translate creative design intent into technical drawings that are accurate, manufacturable, and consistent with brand specifications. Visualize signage structures, including metal, tubular, and composite assemblies, ensuring alignment with brand and fabrication requirements. Review previous signage references and adapt designs for new locations or unique project contexts. Prepare CNC‑ready files and manufacturing documentation for production. Work closely with engineering, manufacturing, and estimation teams to confirm materials, methods, and structural feasibility. Resolve fabrication challenges and propose design adjustments that maintain visual integrity while optimizing efficiency. Provide guidance to production teams and installers for accurate design interpretation. 3. Process & Quality Optimization Evaluate fabrication processes and identify opportunities for improved consistency, speed, and quality. Contribute to the development of standardized templates, component libraries, and process documentation. Maintain familiarity with shop capabilities, materials, and equipment limitations to ensure design practicality. 4. Autonomy & Accountability Independently manage assigned design projects, ensuring accuracy, manufacturability, and timely delivery. Support and mentor junior designers in best practices for visualization and technical detailing. Uphold Pattison ID’s commitment to craftsmanship, safety, and innovation in every project. What You Bring Required 2–5 years of experience in signage, metal fabrication, or architectural manufacturing design. Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD for creating detailed fabrication drawings. Strong visualization ability to interpret design references and adapt them to new signage projects. Knowledge of tubing, metal fabrication, welding, and assembly methods. Understanding of manufacturing materials such as aluminum, steel, and composites. Excellent attention to detail, problem‑solving, and communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines effectively. Preferred Experience designing signage systems, including cabinets, frames, and illuminated structures. Familiarity with CSA / UL safety standards and shop fabrication practices. Background in architectural or environmental branding projects. Post‑secondary education in Industrial Design, Mechanical Drafting, or Engineering Technology. Bilingual (English/French) considered an asset.
