The role of a Controller in the construction and real estate industry is pivotal for overseeing financial operations, ensuring compliance, and supporting strategic decision-making. This position is integral to managing the financial health of projects and the organization as a whole.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.
  • Conduct variance analysis to compare actual financial performance against budgets and forecasts.
  • Provide insights and recommendations to senior management based on financial data.

Project Cost Management

  • Oversee job costing, cost tracking, and construction draw management.
  • Monitor project budgets, ensuring expenditures align with financial plans.
  • Implement cost control measures to prevent budget overruns.

Cash Flow & Treasury Management

  • Manage the company's cash flow by tracking transactions and regularly reviewing internal reports.
  • Ensure timely payment of vendors and subcontractors.
  • Coordinate financing activities and manage relationships with financial institutions.

Internal Controls & Compliance

  • Develop and enforce internal controls to safeguard company assets.
  • Ensure compliance with local tax regulations and financial reporting standards.
  • Liaise with auditors to facilitate annual audits and address any findings.
  • Supervise and mentor accounting and finance staff.
  • Foster a collaborative and efficient work environment.
  • Provide training and development opportunities to enhance team skills.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license is preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting or finance, with at least 3 years in the construction or real estate industry.
  • Proficiency in accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP
  • Strong understanding of job costing, project budgeting, and financial reporting.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
