Regional Consultant, (South) East Asia and the Pacific 5Rights is seeking to recruit an exceptional regional philanthropy and/or advocacy expert on a consultant basis based in (South) East Asia & the Pacific to take forward our ground-breaking work for a rights-respecting digital environment for children. About 5Rights 5Rights Foundation exists to ensure a digital world that will serve children and young people today and for future generations. We are a small team of senior professionals and experts delivering change in how the digital world works, working globally but primarily based out of the UK and Belgium. Purpose and need: 5Rights is the leading global expert voice for children’s rights in the digital environment, and has had significant success in delivering pioneering new policies and laws at the global level as well as in regional and local jurisdictions. We are now seeking to recruit an expert based in the region to support our work and assist in building the structures and relationships to take it to the next level. Going forward we aim to embed our work more firmly in the region, with a view to setting up a regional hub or office that can enable 5Rights to sustainably build local capacity to take the work forward. Scope of work: Identify, map, and build national and regional partnerships across civil society, government, regulators, media, and youth groups. Provide short monthly analyses highlighting key developments, risks, and opportunities in the region, along with recommendations for action. Create opportunities for 5Rights to engage with and educate policymakers and regulators on children’s rights online. Lead or support capacity-building workshops for civil society organisations and contribute to regional or national events and submissions. Produce monthly content pieces for the website or social media, developed in coordination with the Communications and International Affairs teams. Identify and support relevant donor and partnership opportunities to sustain and scale our regional engagement. Skills and experience required: Exceptional talent and strong motivation to deliver on 5Rights’ mission 5+ years of relevant experience, in a similar role working on human rights advocacy and/or philanthropy A profound interest in, and working knowledge of the tech and human rights landscape in the (South) East Asia & the Pacific region Deep network of relationships with stakeholders across the spectrum across countries Self-motivated, driven, and organised, able to work independently and cohesively with a remote team A relentless approach to problem solving and independence in pursuit of outsized goals and ambitious change Ability to move quickly and innate sense of strategic timing toward desired outcomes Excellent organisation skills, with experience managing events and projects A deep commitment to 5Rights’ values Good spoken and written English Timeline and commitment: The consultant will be engaged for a maximum of 72 days over 6 months. This is renewable, in view of a potential permanent full-time contract upon securement of funding.
