The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) is implementing the No Plastics in Nature (NPIN) initiative, a network-wide initiative to stop plastic waste leakage in nature by 2030. Under this initiative, WWF is implementing Plastic Smart Cities (PSC) – a global movement for cities and/or municipalities leading circular solutions to end plastic pollution in their respective sites.

In the Philippines, WWF is now working with 10 cities and/or municipalities in committing to stopping plastic pollution in their area by 2030. Project interventions have included the pilot of social enterprises, supporting Materials Recovery Facilities (MRFs), communicating policies, and other circular solutions on plastic waste reduction, segregation, collection, and recycling. Mindanao Island has 6 project sites including Davao City, Island Garden Cityof Samal (IGACOS), San Isidro, Cagayan de Oro City, Del Carmen, and General Luna which will be supported by Coca-Cola Foundation Philippines and through WWF Germany.

The increasing number of project sites on Mindanao Island prompted the need to have an overall manager for overseeing interventions implemented in the sites. This position ensures documentation of best practices and learnings in influencing local government units (LGUs) to adopt circular solutions to address plastic pollution.

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reports to:Program Manager for No Plastics in Nature initiative

Based in:Davao City, with travel to other project sites as needed

Supervises:Project Coordinator for Davao Gulf,Site Coordinators (Cagayan de Oro, Siargao)

Duration:4 months initial contract, with extension until end or project after performance review

BASIC FUNCTION

The Project Manager is responsible for the overall coordination and management of all PSCinitiatives in Mindanao Island. The Project Manager, in close coordination with the NPIN Program Manager, will work with counterparts from corporate partners and WWF offices in ensuring that set deliverables are achieved in atimely manner.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Project Manager will be primarily responsible for the following:

Leads and manages WWF – Philippines' PSC initiatives, ensuring that project activities are in accordance with the work plan and project progress is according to targets. Should changes be necessary that affect the strategy, approach, main activities, and/or time frame, these should be brought to the attention of the NPIN Program Manager, and Director for Conservation Programs and relevant counterparts and discussed accordingly;

  • In coordination /consultation with his/her supervisor, takes the lead in implementing on-site activities in order to achieve project targets and results;
  • Supervises assigned project and site coordinators towards the implementation of project activities in accordance to the work plan and budget;
  • Ensures alignment of activities in the PSC framework, regional monitoring template, entire NPIN program, and WWF stances related to the plastics issue and solutions;
  • Serves as the primary link of stakeholders on WWF Philippines' PSC initiatives in Mindanao;
  • Prepares timely Technical Progress Reports (TPR), work plans, budgets and presentations to WWF
  • Philippines and Network officers, donors/funding agencies, and government agencies as required and appropriate;
  • Keeps abreast of issues and emerging trends and innovations to address plastic waste, and works with fundraising units in developing new projects proposals; and
  • Perform other duties as may be relevant and necessary to accomplish the project objectives, and as may be assigned from time to time.

WORKING RELATIONSHIPS

Internal: within WWF Philippines, this post reports to the NPIN Program Lead, and is expected to work with other staff under the No Plastics in Nature Initiative and other Plastic Smart Cities project sites.

External: Government officials, community leaders and members, relevant stakeholders, other NGOs, media, and private sector.
