About Us

The biomass plants, North Negros Biopower Inc., South Negros Biopower Inc. and San Carlos Biopower Inc. (together the "Biomass Plants") are located on the island of Negros, Philippines and headquartered and managed from Manila, Philippines. The Biomass Plants are the largest baseload biomass electricity plants in the Philippines with the capacity to generate 70 MW of electricity. The Biomass Plants are designed to run 24 hours a day, providing much needed baseload renewable energy power to the Philippines as it seeks to reduce reliance on conventional electricity solutions such as carbon intensive coal fired power plants. The Biomass Plants employ more than 1200 people, help avoid agricultural waste, and provide additional revenues to sugarcane farmers on the island. The Biomass Plants are powered by sugarcane waste, specifically dried leaves and stalks of the sugar cane plant, which would typically be burned or left to decompose in the sugarcane fields after they are harvested. The Biomass Plants were strategically developed, constructed and financed by ThomasLloyd.

Your Role

As Financial Comptroller, you are responsible for everything from accounting to financial statements, taxation and legal reporting as well as analysis and profitability follow-up. The Financial Comptroller is part of a company-wide function that aims to support the CFO with internal and external reporting and accounting. The position includes on behalf of the CFO or independently initiating and running projects/activities in the area of finance and controlling. The controlling team currently consists of 10 employees, where you as a leader have a responsibility to lead and develop the team.

This role will report to the Chief Financial Officer and will be based in Manila.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements, including income statements, balance sheets and cash flow statements.
  • Oversee the monthly balance sheet reconciliation, financial key performance indicators and substantiation process.
  • Accountable for the completeness of the periodic control assessment and testing of individual controls, working with external internal audit providers to create a timetable and scope of reviews appropriate to the risks associated with the business.
  • Document, review, and maintain robust internal control processes to safeguard company assets and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage and develop a team of finance professionals, providing guidance, feedback, and coaching to foster their growth and ensure high performance.
  • Coordinate with the external tax providers to ensure compliance with tax regulations, minimise tax liabilities, and optimise tax planning strategies.
  • Continuously assess and improve financial processes and systems to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and effectiveness.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal stakeholders, including department heads, to understand their needs and support their financial objectives.
  • Build strong relationships with the relevant Board Directors, presenting at meetings on financial performance and financial strategy, with the CFO.
  • Coordinate and facilitate the annual external audit process, liaising with auditors to provide necessary information and ensure a smooth audit cycle.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and accounting standards, staying abreast of changes, and proactively addressing any potential issues.
  • Monitor performance against budget and provide insightful analysis to support decision-making, in co-ordination with the Head of Financial Planning and Analysis.
  • Manage and oversee Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable.
  • Drive teams to ensure timely submission of financial and regulatory reporting to external stakeholders & regulators, with development opportunities in relation to investor reporting and management.
  • Further develop and manage newly implemented business systems with the key aim of automation and streamlining internal financial processes as well as other overall finance-related special projects.

Your Experience & Qualifications

  • 8-15 years of progressive experience in finance and accounting roles, and with at least 3 years in a leadership capacity as a Financial Comptroller, ideally gained within Energy, Infrastructure or Industrial sectors.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related field; CPA qualification is required.
  • Strong technical accounting skills and proficiency in financial reporting.
  • Previous experience in audit assurance from Big 4 would be a plus.
  • Knowledge of relevant regulatory requirements and accounting standards, such as GAAP or IFRS.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a keen attention to detail.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and financial management software.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and developing a team with a focus on coaching and talent development.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact confidently with senior management and external stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, meeting deadlines without compromising accuracy or quality.
  • Experience working in a multi-entity or multinational environment preferred.
