In general, the Environmental Supervisor- EMS's duty is to be responsible for overseeing the development, implementation, and maintenance of a company-wide Environmental Management System (EMS) that meets ISO 14002 certification standards.

Specifically, he/she shall be responsible for the following:

  • Engagement and management of a 3 rd party service provider that will assist with the establishment of and EMS system in conformance with DENR requirements and ISO 14002 certification standards.
  • Develop policies, guidelines and procedures for the effective and efficient implementation of the EMS system providing training, guidance and other required support to internal teams to ensure compliance.
  • Assessment, analysis and consolidation of environmental performance data and translating this into reports that can be shared to management, internal staff, clients and regulatory bodies.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of environmental frameworks, policies and practices as well as strategies to meet environmental performance targets and to encourage best practice.
  • Lead the conduct of periodic internal EMS audits utilizing appropriate tools and systems to monitor environmental performance of various teams across the organization and work sites.
  • Extend support where needed to prepare various project teams for external audits.
  • Keeps up-to-date knowledge of the EMS, environmental laws and relevant information necessary.
  • Ensures that all relevant documents, registers, and records are maintained and backed-up.
  • Perform other duties as may be required by the position manager.
Qualifications:
  • Degree in environmental science, environmental engineering, or related field.
  • At least 5 years of practical experience in handling EMS preferably in a mining sector context
  • Knowledge of environmental regulations and guidelines applicable to the mining industry.
  • Experience in the development and/or implementation of EMS in accordance with the ISO-14001 Standards
