This Software Engineer function at Zendesk will be impactful to the reliability and availability of Zendesk products and our customers' trust and happiness.

As a Software Engineer, you will be responsible for monitoring, solving and triaging of alerts for both infrastructure and application issues. Also, providing support with service incidents by alert validation, recommend resolutions, or implementing temporary fixes until the availability of the product/code owner.

The ideal candidate will have experience finding and fixing issues with distributed systems in the cloud. They should have previous success working high severity service incidents and actively participating in the incident lifecycle. You should also have knowledge of networking and experience writing software.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Availability to work night shift 5 times a week.
  • Proficiency with one of the following; Python, Javascript, Ruby, and React frameworks
  • Experience with AWS, infrastructure, cloud-native software design, backend systems and Kubernetes and configuration as code
  • Experience with monitoring tools such as Datadog, PagerDuty or similar tools is a plus
  • Interest in debugging difficult problems across complex systems
  • Ability to clearly and concisely communicate technical and non-technical requirements to colleagues

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 1+ years experience in Software Engineering or a Site Reliability engineering role
  • Experience drafting RFCs and similar documents for review by peers across engineering
  • The desire to lead, partner, and collaborate across our engineering organization

  • Monitor, troubleshoot, firefight, and stabilize service incidents.
  • Implement reliability and observability by improving/implementing monitoring tools and alerting.
  • Write code to automate the mitigations and improve tools

Tech Stack

  • Our platform is built on AWS
  • We use Kubernetes to dynamically scale and manage infrastructure
  • The health of our infra is monitored with Datadog and Pagerduty
  • Our code is mostly written in Python but you might encounter Ruby, Javascript and React
