Role: Senior Infrastructure Engineer – VMware & Backup/Recovery

5–8 Years Employment Type: Full-Time Job Summary We are looking for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer with 5–8 years of hands-on experience in VMware infrastructure, resource provisioning, backup and restore operations, backup validation, and infrastructure resilience . The candidate will be responsible for independently managing VMware resources, backup infrastructure, recovery operations, and resilience of backup environments . The role requires strong technical ownership of backup health, recoverability, capacity, and disaster recovery readiness. The ideal candidate should be able to design, implement, execute, and validate backup and recovery solutions while ensuring that backup data is healthy, complete, recoverable, and aligned with business continuity requirements.

Key Responsibilities
VMware Infrastructure
- Provision, configure, and manage VMware virtual machines and infrastructure resources .
- Perform VM provisioning, cloning, templates, resizing, migration, and decommissioning.
- Manage VMware ESXi hosts and vCenter Server environments.
- Allocate and manage CPU, memory, storage, and network resources based on application requirements.
- Perform VM migration using vMotion/Storage vMotion where required.
- Monitor VMware infrastructure capacity, performance, availability, and health.
- Troubleshoot VM, ESXi, datastore, vCenter, and virtual networking-related issues.
- Support VMware infrastructure upgrades, patching, and maintenance activities.
- Maintain accurate VMware infrastructure documentation and configuration records. Backup & Restore Operations
- Manage day-to-day backup and restore operations for virtual and physical workloads.
- Configure and maintain backup policies, schedules, retention, and backup repositories.
- Monitor backup jobs and investigate failed, incomplete, or inconsistent backups .
- Perform file-level, VM-level, application-level, and full system restores as required.
- Execute restoration activities during incidents, application recovery, and disaster recovery exercises.
- Troubleshoot backup failures and work with application, storage, network, and vendor teams to resolve issues.
- Ensure backup operations meet defined RPO/RTO and business continuity requirements . Backup Health & Data Validation
- Perform regular validation of backup content and backup integrity .
- Verify that backup data is complete, accessible, and successfully recoverable .
- Execute restore testing / recovery testing to validate backup usability.
- Validate backup consistency following infrastructure changes, migrations, upgrades, and major application deployments.
- Monitor backup repositories for capacity, corruption, failures, and performance issues .
- Maintain backup health reports and recovery test evidence.
- Identify gaps in backup coverage and proactively remediate them.
- Ensure critical servers and applications are appropriately protected by backup policies. Backup Resilience & Disaster Recovery
- Design and implement resilient backup architectures to protect critical infrastructure and applications.
- Define and implement appropriate backup redundancy, retention, replication, and recovery mechanisms .
- Design backup strategies considering RPO, RTO, business criticality, and recovery scenarios .
- Implement and maintain offsite/secondary backup copies where required.
- Support backup replication to secondary sites or disaster recovery environments.
- Design and execute backup recovery and resilience testing .
- Conduct regular disaster recovery and backup restoration exercises .
- Validate that backup infrastructure can support recovery during infrastructure failures, ransomware/security incidents, or site-level disasters.
- Identify single points of failure within the backup environment and implement appropriate remediation.
- Maintain and improve Backup & Recovery Runbooks, DR procedures, and recovery plans . Mandatory Technical Skills
- 5–8 years of hands-on experience in Infrastructure Engineering.
- Strong hands-on experience with VMware/ vSphere / ESXi / vCenter.
- Experience in VM provisioning, resource allocation, migration, and lifecycle management.
- Strong experience with enterprise backup and restore operations.
- Hands-on experience with at least one enterprise backup solution.
- Strong knowledge of backup policies, schedules, retention, repositories, replication, and restore procedures.
- Experience performing backup integrity and recoverability validation.
- Experience executing restore testing and disaster recovery exercises.
- Experience designing or implementing backup resilience and redundancy.
- Strong troubleshooting skills across VMware, storage, backup, network, and infrastructure components.
