About the Role
Employgmagic is looking for a Spanish Language Specialist to join our academic team and help maintain high-quality standards for AI-powered language learning. In this role, you will review and evaluate Spanish language assignments for students in Grades 6–12, providing accurate scores and meaningful feedback on grammar, vocabulary, fluency, syntax, and cultural understanding. You will also help evaluate our AI scoring system, Spark, ensuring that its feedback is accurate, natural, grammatically correct, and appropriate for students learning Spanish as a second language. We are looking for someone with strong Spanish expertise who understands the specific challenges native English speakers face when learning Spanish. ##
Key Responsibilities
## Spanish Language Evaluation
- Review and score student assignments in Spanish.
- Evaluate grammar, syntax, vocabulary, fluency, and overall language accuracy.
- Provide clear, constructive, and encouraging feedback appropriate for middle and high school students.
- Identify common errors made by English-speaking Spanish learners. ## AI Quality Review
- Audit AI-generated scores and feedback from our platform.
- Check that AI feedback is grammatically correct, natural-sounding, accurate, and pedagogically appropriate.
- Identify inconsistencies or errors in AI-generated language evaluations.
- Help improve AI scoring quality through detailed feedback and error analysis. ## Curriculum & Regional Language Review
- Review Spanish-language prompts, rubrics, and learning materials.
- Ensure content is appropriate across Castilian Spanish and Latin American Spanish varieties.
- Identify translation issues, regional differences, and cultural nuances that may affect language evaluation. ## Error Analysis
- Identify recurring English-to-Spanish transfer errors, including:
- *Por
* vs. *para
*
- *Ser
* vs. *estar
*
- Incorrect prepositions
- False cognates
- Incorrect verb tenses
- Literal translations from English
- Subjunctive mood errors ## Qualifications ## Spanish Language Expertise
- C1/C2 Spanish proficiency or Native-level Spanish
- Strong command of Spanish grammar, syntax, vocabulary, and usage.
- Familiarity with both Castilian and Latin American Spanish is highly valued.
- Strong understanding of Spanish as a second language for native English speakers. ## English Proficiency
- Strong English communication skills.
- Ability to clearly explain language errors and provide detailed written feedback in English when needed.
- Understanding of common linguistic challenges between English and Spanish. ## Analytical & Technical Skills
- Ability to evaluate student work ranging from basic middle-school Spanish to advanced high-school writing and conversational work.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to identify subtle language errors.
- Comfortable learning and working with AI-powered educational platforms and digital tools.
- Typing speed of 60+ WPM. ## Communication Skills
- Patient, encouraging, and empathetic communication style.
- Ability to provide constructive feedback that helps students improve.
- Comfortable working with students who may experience anxiety or lack confidence when learning a new language. ## Nice to Have
- Degree in Spanish, Spanish Philology, Linguistics, Education, or a related field.
- Experience teaching or tutoring Spanish.
- Experience teaching Spanish as a Second Language (ELE).
- Experience teaching Spanish to native English speakers.
- Experience with grading, curriculum development, language assessment, or educational technology.
