Job Title: TB Clinic Nurse / Specialist Nurse
Reports To: Clinic Head / Department Head
Job Summary: The TB Clinic Specialist Nurse is responsible for providing clinical care, case management, education, and public health support for patients affected by or at risk of TB infection. The ideal candidate will be a registered nurse with specialized knowledge in TB management, including diagnosis, treatment protocols (latent and active TB), infection control, and contact tracing. This role is crucial in achieving effective TB control and prevention within our community or healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities:
o Clinical Care and Case Management
o Provide expert clinical assessment for individuals suspected of or diagnosed with active TB and latent TB infection (LTBI).
o Coordinate and manage the full cascade of patient care, from diagnosis through treatment completion, including prevention, ensuring adherence to national and international TB guidelines.
o Administer Observed Therapy (directly and/or remotely) for patients with active TB and infection, monitoring for treatment side effects and adherence issues, and ensuring completion.
o Conduct and interpret diagnostic tests related to TB (e.g., Mantoux TST, IGRA) and collect and manage sputum samples as needed.
o Liaise with physicians, pulmonologists, and infectious disease specialists to develop and adjust individualized treatment plans.
o Infection Control and Public Health
o Perform TB contact tracing investigations, identifying and screening contacts of confirmed active TB cases, and managing their prophylactic treatment.
o Provide counseling and education on infection control measures to patients, families, and healthcare staff to prevent TB transmission.
o Maintain accurate and confidential patient records and reports promptly and accurately to local public health authorities.
o Participate and assist in the development and implementation of TB infection control policies.
o Education and Advocacy
o Educate patients and families about TB disease, the importance of adherence to long-term treatment, potential side effects, and preventative measures.
o Provide training and mentorship to general nursing staff and other healthcare professionals on TB screening, infection control, and best practices in patient management.
o Act as a patient advocate, helping to address barriers to care, such as transportation, housing, and financial challenges, in coordination with social services.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or equivalent.
- Licensure: Valid and current Registered Nurse license to practice in the Philippines.
- Skills:
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with diverse patient populations and multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to manage a complex caseload.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to accurate documentation and reporting.
- Culturally sensitive and empathetic in providing care to vulnerable populations.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound clinical judgment.
