The Chairperson serves as coordinator for and assists the College Director/ Dean in management of academic concerns as curriculum content, class schedules, faculty assignments, classroom management, research and development, and related matters in relation to general education or a specific degree program.

Responsibilities & Accountabilities

1. Takes personal responsibility to undertake job functions consistent with the Institution's vision and mission statements; Ensures that subordinate employees perform their respective functions in like manner.

2. Plans, organizes, and controls the operation and activities of the work unit; Prepares and secures approval of the budget in support to such operations and activities.

3. Initiates the development and/ or revision of the curriculum content and recommends the development or acquisition of textbooks, workbooks, reference books, and other instructional materials for use in the course/ department.

4. Coordinates with and provides directions to the faculty on the preparation of the course syllabi; Ensures standardization and uniformity of the course content and pedagogic methodology among faculty members teaching the same subjects.

5. Prepares and recommends class schedules and the assignment of faculty load for the Dean/ College Director's approval.

6. Evaluates the faculty members' performance though classroom visitation/ observation, review of examination questions, and monitoring of student feedback.

7. Designs, undertakes, coordinates and evaluates faculty development programs such as orientation programs, conferences, seminar-workshops, on-the-job or in-service training, etc. aimed at upgrading the faculty's competencies consequently, teaching effectiveness.

8. Monitors faculty attendance and punctuality, assigns substitution, monitors make-up instructional activities of classes, etc.

9. Interviews and evaluates transferees to establish transfer credits and freshmen applicants seeking reconsideration of application for enrollment and submits recommendations to the College Director.

10. Ensures the undertaking of student advising on subject sequence, pre-requisite courses, electives, student loading during the enrollment period and on change or dropping of subjects in the course of the academic term.

11. Organizes co-curricular activities such as seminars, specialized learning sessions, and practicum programs for the course/ department.

12. Undertakes information dissemination to faculty members and students concerns such as rules, policies, regulations, and information on recent developments within the course/department by way of memoranda, circulars, bulletin board postings, and general assembly meetings.

13. Represents the school on off-campus meetings and conferences that relate to specific academic program to which he/ she is assigned.

14. Ensures the placement of students for on-the job training and practicum.

14.1 Establishes networking and linkages with related professional associations/ organizations to provide insights on professional development programs to the students.

14.2 Participates in the planning, update and implementation of guidelines governing the placement of students for practicum assignments.

14.3 Undertakes negotiation with partner industrial/ commercial companies for the absorption of students for practicum or on-the-job training.

14.4 Maintains listing of partner organization and sustains relations with contact persons through public relations initiatives.

15. Submits to superior periodic reports on the operations and activities of the work unit with corresponding analysis and recommendations.

16. Participates in the collegial planning for policies, procedures and systems, problem solving, decision making and performance monitoring through participation in standing and ad hoc committees, task forces, and project teams.

17. Supervises and controls planned intervening activities of subordinate employees concerning the performance of their job functions and completion of task assignments in accordance with prescribed standards, in the process providing motivational approaches, training and development, coaching and counseling.
