A Senior Quantity Surveyor (Senior QS) is responsible for leading cost management, contracts, and financial control across both commercial and civil construction projects in Australia. This role ensures that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and in compliance with Australian standards, codes, and contractual requirements.


Key Responsibilities

Cost Planning & Estimation

  • Prepare accurate cost plans, budgets, and estimates for Australian commercial and civil projects.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, cost benchmarking, and value engineering to maximize project efficiency and value.

Contract & Procurement Management

  • Draft, negotiate, and manage contracts in accordance with Australian construction law and industry best practice.
  • Lead procurement and tendering processes, ensuring fairness, compliance, and efficiency.
  • Develop bills of quantities, tender documentation, and procurement schedules.

Project Financial Management

  • Monitor costs, budgets, and cash flows across the project lifecycle.
  • Prepare progress claims, valuations, and detailed financial reports in line with Australian standards.
  • Identify and mitigate cost risks while ensuring transparent and accurate financial reporting.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or related field.
  • Membership or eligibility for membership with the Australian Institute of Quantity Surveyors (AIQS) or a similar professional body (desirable).
  • Minimum 7+ years' experience in quantity surveying within commercial and/or civil construction projects in Australia.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian construction law, contracts (AS forms, NEC, FIDIC desirable), and procurement practices.
  • Proven expertise in cost planning, financial management, and risk mitigation.
  • Proficiency in relevant software (e.g., CostX, Buildsoft, Excel, MS Project).
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
