A driver is responsible for safely transporting passengers or cargo to their destinations by operating a vehicle. Key duties include following traffic laws, planning and following routes, performing routine vehicle maintenance, and ensuring the vehicle is clean and fueled. Drivers must also be reliable, punctual, and have strong communication and navigational skills. Responsibilities

  • Transporting: Safely pick up and deliver passengers or goods to designated locations.
  • Navigation: Plan and follow the most efficient routes using maps or GPS, while adjusting for traffic and road conditions.
  • Safety and Maintenance: Adhere to all traffic laws, conduct pre- and post-trip inspections, maintain the vehicle's cleanliness, and ensure it has enough fuel.
  • Loading and Unloading: Help with loading and unloading cargo or luggage as needed.
  • Documentation: Keep accurate records, such as mileage, delivery logs, and fuel usage, and complete necessary paperwork.
  • Communication: Communicate with dispatchers or clients to report on progress, delays, or any issues.

Skills and qualifications

  • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record.
  • Strong navigational skills, including the ability to read maps and use GPS.
  • Excellent time management and punctuality.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work independently and adapt to changing schedules.
  • Physical ability to perform tasks such as loading and unloading items.
  • Knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and road safety.
  • A professional and positive attitude.

Experience and education

  • While experience requirements vary, many positions require a high school diploma or GED.
  • Professional driving experience is often preferred.
  • Some positions, like commercial trucking, may require additional training or certifications.
