The Forklift Operator is essential for the efficient movement and handling of goods within the facility's refrigerated environment. Their role directly impacts the productivity, safety, and quality of operations, ensuring that perishable goods are handled and stored properly to maintain product integrity. By operating forklifts safely and effectively, they contribute to the smooth operation of the facility, minimize product damage, and support timely order fulfillment.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
- Material Handling: Operate forklifts and other material handling equipment to transport, stack, and store palletized goods, containers, and materials within the cold storage facility.
- Loading and Unloading: Load and unload trucks, trailers, and storage racks using forklifts, following proper procedures and safety protocols to prevent damage to goods and equipment.
- Inventory Management: Assist in inventory management activities, including receiving, counting, and verifying incoming shipments, and locating and staging materials for storage or distribution.
- Order Picking: Retrieve and assemble orders for shipment, picking items from storage locations using forklifts or other equipment, and preparing them for loading onto delivery vehicles.
- Temperature Control: Adhere to temperature control requirements and safety guidelines while operating forklifts in refrigerated environments, ensuring product quality and compliance with cold storage standards.
- Safety Compliance: Follow safety procedures and guidelines for forklift operation, including wearing personal protective equipment (PPE), conducting pre-operation inspections, and reporting any safety hazards or incidents.
- Equipment Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance checks on forklifts and other equipment, such as inspecting tires, brakes, and hydraulic systems, and reporting any issues to maintenance staff for repairs.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of equipment inspections, ensuring documentation is up-to-date and accessible for reference.
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:
- Forklift Operation Experience: Previous experience operating forklifts in a warehouse or cold storage environment, with a strong understanding of forklift safety practices and operating procedures.
- Safety Consciousness: Commitment to safety, adherence to forklift safety regulations, and awareness of hazards associated with operating forklifts in confined spaces and cold environments.
- Attention to Detail: Meticulous attention to detail in handling and stacking pallets, verifying product labels, and following instructions to ensure accuracy and prevent damage to goods.
- Physical Fitness: Ability to perform tasks requiring physical strength, agility, and stamina, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods, in a cold environment.
- Team Player: Collaborative mindset with the ability to work well independently as well as part of a team, coordinating with warehouse staff, supervisors, and other departments to support operations.
- Communication Skills: Effective communication skills to interact with colleagues, supervisors, and clients, conveying information clearly and professionally during loading and unloading activities.
BONUS SKILLS:
- Inventory Management: Familiarity with inventory management software systems for tracking and managing inventory levels, locating items, and generating reports.
- Multi-Equipment Operation: Experience operating other types of material handling equipment, such as pallet jacks, reach trucks, or order pickers, to provide additional support and flexibility in warehouse operations.
- Cold Storage Knowledge: Understanding of cold storage operations, temperature control requirements, and product handling guidelines for perishable goods stored in refrigerated environments.
- First Aid/CPR Certification: Certification in first aid and cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) can be helpful for responding to emergencies and ensuring the safety of personnel in the facility.
- Language Skills: Proficiency in additional languages may be beneficial for communicating with colleagues from diverse backgrounds or in multinational companies with international operations.
