CSSD Technician

A Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD) Technician assists in preparing and distributing sterile medical equipment, instruments, and supplies for surgical and clinical procedures. They are responsible for cleaning, disassembling, assembling, sterilizing, packaging, and distributing these items, ensuring patient safety and optimal clinical care. • Cleaning and Decontamination:Cleaning and disinfecting a wide range of surgical instruments, trays, and other medical equipment using various methods, including manual and automated washers.
• Instrument Assembly and Preparation:Assembling surgical instruments into trays according to specific surgical needs, preparing linen and other supplies for sterilization.
• Sterilization:Operating and maintaining sterilizers, including autoclaves, to ensure the effective sterilization of medical instruments and supplies.
• Packaging and Storage:Properly packaging sterile items, labeling them with appropriate details, and storing them in designated areas for easy access.
• Distribution:Distributing sterile supplies to the appropriate departments, ensuring a timely supply of necessary materials.
• Inventory Management:Maintaining accurate inventory records of all instruments, supplies, and equipment, ensuring adequate stock levels.
• Quality Assurance:Inspecting medical instruments for cleanliness and functionality, ensuring compliance with sterilization procedures and regulatory standards.
• Equipment Maintenance:Performing routine maintenance on sterilization equipment, including autoclaves, and addressing any issues as needed.
• Safety:Adhering to all safety regulations and procedures, including proper handling of contaminated materials and use of personal protective equipment.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Sterilization Processes:Understanding of various sterilization methods, including autoclaving, gas sterilization, and other techniques.
• Attention to Detail:Careful and meticulous approach to cleaning, assembling, and sterilizing medical instruments.
• Organizational Skills:Ability to organize and manage inventory, maintain accurate records, and ensure efficient workflows.
• Communication Skills:Ability to communicate effectively with medical staff and other members of the healthcare team.
• Physical Stamina:Ability to stand for extended periods, lift and move equipment, and perform repetitive tasks.
