I. JOB SUMMARYThe Welder/Cutter is responsible for cutting, welding, and preparing scrap materials using welding machines, cutting torches, and other tools. The role ensures safe, accurate, and efficient processing of metal scraps while following company safety standards and operational procedures.
II. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
A. Cutting and Welding Operations
- Perform cutting of metal scraps using oxy-acetylene torch or other cutting equipment.
- Weld and repair metal parts as required in the junkshop operations.
- Ensure accuracy in cutting sizes as instructed by the supervisor.
- Operate welding machines, grinders, and related tools safely.
- Follow all safety rules and wear complete PPE (gloves, goggles, welding mask, apron, boots).
- Ensure safe handling of gas tanks, hoses, and cutting equipment.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the work area to prevent hazards.
- Report any unsafe conditions, equipment damage, or incidents immediately.
- Inspect and maintain welding and cutting equipment regularly.
- Ensure proper storage and secure handling of tools and gas tanks.
- Perform basic troubleshooting of equipment when needed.
- Assist in loading, sorting, and preparing scrap materials.
- Coordinate with truck helpers and yard staff for material processing.
- Follow instructions from the supervisor regarding cutting layout and work priorities.
III. QUALIFICATIONS
- Preferably with experience in welding and metal cutting.
- Knowledge in operating oxy-acetylene torch, welding machines, and power tools.
- Ability to read simple cutting instructions or measurements.
- Physically fit and able to work in outdoor or heavy-duty environments.
- Understanding of basic safety standards related to welding and cutting.
IV. WORKING CONDITIONS
- On-site, mostly in the junkshop yard area.
- Exposed to heat, sparks, fumes, noise, and heavy materials.
- Requires wearing complete PPE at all times.
- May require overtime depending on workload.
