Duties and Responsibilities of Respiratory Therapists
Evaluate patients' respiratory status through physical examinations, patient history, and review of medical records.
Administer respiratory treatments, including nebulizer treatments, chest physiotherapy, and aerosol therapy.
Set up and manage mechanical ventilators for patients who require respiratory support.
Provide emergency care, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and airway management during emergencies.
Administer oxygen therapy and monitor its effectiveness.
Ensure proper use of oxygen delivery devices such as nasal cannulas, masks, and oxygen concentrators.
Administer respiratory medications as prescribed by physicians.
Educate patients on the correct use of inhalers and other respiratory medications.
Provide instructions on breathing exercises, use of medical equipment, and lifestyle modifications to improve respiratory health.
Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and safely.
Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes.
Document all therapies and interventions provided to patients.
Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.
Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment adjustments.
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits to enhance patient care.
Monitor patients' progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.
Stay updated with the latest advancements in respiratory therapy and medical technology.
Participate in continuing education programs, workshops, and professional conferences.
