Duties and Responsibilities of Respiratory Therapists

• Evaluate patients' respiratory status through physical examinations, patient history, and review of medical records.

• Administer respiratory treatments, including nebulizer treatments, chest physiotherapy, and aerosol therapy.

• Set up and manage mechanical ventilators for patients who require respiratory support.

• Provide emergency care, such as cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and airway management during emergencies.

• Administer oxygen therapy and monitor its effectiveness.

• Ensure proper use of oxygen delivery devices such as nasal cannulas, masks, and oxygen concentrators.

• Administer respiratory medications as prescribed by physicians.

• Educate patients on the correct use of inhalers and other respiratory medications.

• Provide instructions on breathing exercises, use of medical equipment, and lifestyle modifications to improve respiratory health.

• Ensure all equipment is functioning correctly and safely.

• Maintain accurate and detailed patient records, including treatment plans, progress notes, and outcomes.

• Document all therapies and interventions provided to patients.

• Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement patient care plans.

• Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss patient progress and treatment adjustments.

• Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.

• Participate in quality improvement initiatives and clinical audits to enhance patient care.

• Monitor patients' progress and adjust treatment plans as needed.

• Stay updated with the latest advancements in respiratory therapy and medical technology.

• Participate in continuing education programs, workshops, and professional conferences.
