FDAS (Fire Detection and Alarm System) Estimator

About The Position

We are working with a well-established Australian organisation that delivers end-to-end fire services, including the design, installation, commissioning, maintenance, and testing of fire protection systems. As a Dry Fire Estimator, your role will focus on producing accurate, compliant quotations for dry fire system defects identified by field technicians and documented in Uptick.

You will convert inspection, testing, and maintenance findings into clear, audit-ready scopes of work that meet AS 1851, manufacturer guidelines, and client requirements. The role involves close collaboration with technicians, operations, and account teams to ensure all estimates are technically correct, commercially sound, and clearly communicated to all stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities

Defect Review & Interpretation

Assess dry fire system defects submitted by field technicians through Uptick
Analyse inspection, testing, and maintenance data for fire detection and alarm systems
Confirm defect accuracy, severity, and compliance obligations
Liaise with technicians to resolve unclear or incomplete defect details before pricing

Quotation & Scope Development

Produce detailed, itemised quotations for rectifying dry fire defects
Develop clear scopes of work aligned with AS 1851 and relevant Australian Standards
Accurately account for labour, materials, access requirements, and compliance testing
Ensure quotations are client-friendly and defensible during audits

Technical Compliance

Apply practical knowledge of dry fire detection and alarm systems, including:
Conventional and addressable systems
Detection devices, control panels, interfaces, and power supplies
Demonstrate familiarity with major fire system platforms such as Notifier, Ampac, Siemens, or similar
Ensure all quoted works comply with AS 1851, manufacturer specifications, and site or contract requirements

Uptick Quoting & Data Integrity

Prepare and manage quotations within Uptick
Correctly link quoted works to relevant assets, defects, and sites
Maintain pricing accuracy using approved labour rates, products, and margins
Deliver complete and consistent quotations ready for approval or client submission

Collaboration & Communication

Partner with field technicians to improve defect reporting accuracy and clarity
Work with operations and account teams to align scopes with site conditions and access limitations
Respond to internal and client enquiries regarding pricing, scope, and compliance

Quality Assurance & Continuous Improvement

Compare completed works against original estimates to refine pricing accuracy
Identify recurring defect patterns and recommend process improvements
Provide constructive feedback to technicians on defect reporting quality
Stay current with fire standards, systems, and industry products

What Were Looking For

Strong technical understanding of dry fire detection and alarm systems
Practical experience or solid knowledge of systems such as Notifier, Ampac, Siemens, or equivalent
Working knowledge of AS 1851 and Australian fire compliance standards
Experience using Uptick or similar fire compliance or asset management platforms
Proven ability to price work accurately based on technical and compliance data
Experience supporting Australian projects or clients is highly desirable
Clear written and verbal communication skills for reports, audits, and compliance correspondence
Proactive approach to record-keeping, documentation, and evidence-based decision-making
Confidence in enforcing compliance requirements and escalating risks when necessary
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage high-volume documentation and workflows

Preferred Qualifications

Background in fire protection, safety, construction, or compliance-related industries
Availability to commence work as soon as possible
